Ogbomoso Recreation Club lifts boxing, aims to produce national champions – finals this evening

Ogbomoso Recreation Club (ORC) has unveiled its intention to produce national boxing champions that will go ahead to represent Nigeria in international competitions.
Barrister Bankole Williams stated this Friday at the 4th Boxing Championship of the Youth Sports Development Movement (YSDM), Ogbomoso, held in partnership with ORC.
The first three editions were organized by YSDM supported by certain individuals including Barrister Bankole Williams.

However, ORC has forged partnership with YSDM, and is aiming big, looking to nurture boxing talents to stardom in the city, a member told ogbomosoinsightonline.com.
“President of ORC Dr Akin Oladeji – John Brown, is committed to the project. When he learnt of the competition and the struggles the organizers faced yearly, he keyed in, that is why ORC has forged collaboration moreover when a member, Barrister Bankole Williams, had been involved previously,” it is stated.
“They used to take entry fee but we now throw it open to increase participation. The recreation club is meant for recreation and it is in line to welcome and support them.”
The 2024 edition which took off Friday and would end today, Saturday, had boxers competing in different weight categories including 55kg, 60kg and so on, between Ogbomoso and Ondo Boxing Clubs.
Azeez Balogun of Ondo Club defeated Taofeeq Seun of Ogbomoso Club in the 55kg category on points while Odey John from the Ondo Club also out-punched his counterpart from Ogbomoso, Ademola Oladayo.

Other finals will be determined Saturday evening.
Barrister Williams said ORC would seek corporate sponsors in the coming years.
He stated, “We are working on getting corporate sponsors so that in the next five years, we will have national champions.”
Also speaking, Otunba Kolawole Adigun, also a member of ORC, enthused it was his first time of witnessing a boxing competition physically, as he promised a gift of ₦10,000 each to the boxers.
The competition continues today, starting 4pm.
