The Oyo Ronu Development Forum (ORDF) has expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in the country, particularly the continued captivity of a school principal, teachers, students and other innocent citizens abducted by suspected kidnappers.
In a communiqué issued by the Forum, ORDF described the situation as a grave humanitarian crisis requiring immediate and decisive intervention from all levels of government and security agencies.
The Forum said recent videos allegedly released by the kidnappers have heightened public anxiety and exposed the brutality of the criminal elements responsible for the abductions.
According to the communiqué, reports indicating that one captive has been killed while another has been marked for execution have further deepened concerns about the safety of those still being held.
ORDF noted that the prolonged detention of the victims constitutes an assault on human dignity, the right to life and the sanctity of education, stressing that every passing day subjects the victims and their families to untold physical, emotional and psychological trauma.

While commending security personnel for their sacrifices and commitment under difficult circumstances, the Forum maintained that the protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government.
“The continued captivity of innocent citizens for several weeks is unacceptable. Citizens have a legitimate expectation of swift, coordinated and result-oriented action from those entrusted with their security,” the communiqué stated.
The Forum further observed that the increasing frequency and sophistication of kidnapping incidents raise serious concerns about the effectiveness and coordination of the nation’s security architecture.
“A nation where teachers, students, farmers, traders and travellers live in fear cannot achieve meaningful development, attract investment or retain its brightest minds,” the statement added.
ORDF therefore called on the Federal Government to deploy all available resources, including special forces, advanced intelligence assets and necessary logistics, to ensure the unconditional and safe release of all abductees.
It also urged the Oyo State Government and other affected states to strengthen collaboration with federal security agencies by providing necessary intelligence, logistical support and political will to address the crisis.

The Forum appealed to security agencies to improve intelligence gathering, enhance surveillance capabilities, strengthen inter-agency cooperation and dismantle criminal networks responsible for kidnapping and banditry.
It further called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organisations and community stakeholders to support security efforts through credible intelligence sharing while remaining vigilant within the confines of the law.
ORDF also urged lawmakers and policymakers at both state and federal levels to review existing security strategies and legislative frameworks in order to address the evolving nature of insecurity across the country.
The Forum additionally recommended the consideration of reputable and experienced private military contractors to provide specialised operational support, intelligence and tactical expertise in combating banditry and kidnapping.
Describing the development as a national wake-up call, ORDF maintained that Nigeria can no longer depend on reactive approaches to insecurity but must embrace proactive, intelligence-driven and technology-supported security strategies.
The communiqué concluded by expressing solidarity with the abducted victims and their families while urging authorities to act with urgency and determination.
“The lives of our citizens are sacred. The time for decisive and effective action is now,” the Forum stated.
