The multi-million naira Fedegbo Mega Aso-Ofi Weaving Centre, Ogbomoso, Oyo state, is to be inaugurated tomorrow, Tuesday, October 7.

This is according to a press release signed by the Special Assistant on Media and Community Relations to His Imperial Majesty Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III, Rev’d Peter Olaleye.

The modern weaving centre located at the Ogbomoso Ultra Modern Market is a project put up by the Nigerian Navy under the auspices of the Chief of the Naval Staff; Vice Admiral Immanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, the release added. “It is funded by the Nigerian Navy under the Chief of the Naval Staff; Vice Admiral Immanuel Ikechukwu OGALLA’s Special Intervention Quick Impact Project Scheme (CNS-SIQIPS). The project is facilitated by an illustrious son of Ogbomosho, Rear Admiral Sunday John Oyegade, who is a serving senior officer in the Nigerian Navy.”

It is stated such projects are based on the belief that if the youths are gainfully employed they would channel their energy towards productive things and steer away from crimes.

“The philosophy that underpins the Scheme is the belief that if the people in our communities, particularly, the youths are gainfully employed, they are less likely to engage in criminal activities; and our communities would be safer.

“The CNS-SIQIPS is also aimed at winning the hearts and minds of the people in the communities where the Armed Forces of Nigeria operate and the local communities of the facilitators of the Projects.”

Quoting Rear Admiral Oyegade it’s stressed that since the modern weaving centre meets the objectives of the scheme getting it approved was not difficult.

“Indeed the Mega Aso-Ofi Weaving Centre meets all the foregoing objectives. It is on this note, that we appreciate the Nigerian Navy and facilitator of the Project, Rear Admiral Sunday John OYEGADE.”

The Soun will be the Special Guest of Honour at the event billed to commence 11:00am and is expected to perform the commissioning ceremony.

ogbomosoinsightonline.com recalls that the weaving centre was borne out of the vision of Oba Olaoye to develop Ogbomoso economically. The Oba mooted the idea of a modern weaving centre for the traditional weavers of Aso Ofi at Fedegbo, Osupa, in the heart of Ogbomoso, following a visit he made to the place earlier in the year. He had promised the place would be upgraded.
