Soun thanks Tinubu over 169 Motorcycle Battalion army base in Ahoro-Esinele, Ogbomoso

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the location of an army base at Ogbomoso, at Ahoro-Esinele, with the nomenclature, 169 Motorcycle Battalion.

This was revealed by the Soun of Ogbomosoland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III.

Oba Olaoye made this known in a post on his Facebook page, Monday, after receiving in his palace at Oja’gbo, a delegation of Nigerian Army senior officers, led by Major General Olabanji (rtd). Some others in the delegation are Major General Audu, Majo General Danja and the Commandant of the Nigerian Training Centre, Ogbomoso.

According to the monarch, the new army base is being facilitated in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Interior, noting he discussed the construction and development of the proposed army battalion with the delegation.

Oba Olaoye who remarked that the battalion would strengthen security infrastructure and enhance the operational capacity of security personnel, expressed gratitude to the army officers and to the President Bola Tinubu-led administration for “fulfilling its promise to our people.”

He said the project became imperative in view of the recent security breaches at Ahoro-Esinele which led to the kidnap of over 40 teachers and students/pupils including the principal of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, Mrs. Rachael Alamu. They were held by the bandits for 56 days before being rescued by security operatives.

Soun further commented, “As we look forward to the successful execution of this project, I reaffirm the Palace’s commitment to providing the necessary support and cooperation to the relevant authorities wherever required,” adding, “The security of our people remains a shared responsibility. Through sustained collaboration and collective commitment, we can build a safer and more prosperous Ogbomosoland.”

The Nigerian Army 169 Motorcycle Battalion is a specialized combat unit under the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Odogbo, Ibadan. It is to manage security deployments and patrols around the Old Oyo National Park. It is so named because it will employ combat motorcycles for rapid mobility, navigation of difficult terrains and aggressive patrolling in difficult terrains for heavy military vehicles. The unit will also maintain high vigilance for efficient security in the region.
