Aso-Ofi: I love strides of Oba Ghandi – Iseyin man, clamours for repackaging of industry in Iseyin

A man ostensibly of Iseyin origin, Oludayo Ogotuntun Isola has shared his frustration over the state of Aso-Ofi industry in Iseyin, Oke-Ogun area of Oyo state, while however thumbing up the giant strides of the Soun of Ogbomosoland His Imperial Majesty Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III in pivoting the rejuvenation the industry in Ogbomoso,, a city about 76.67kms away.
The man expressed his frustration in a Facebook post, shared in a Facebook group of Iseyin people – ISEYIN MY HOME – slamming the biennial Aso-Ofi Day in Iseyin. He averred the celebration had no economic impact on the town saying it is only a waste of time and resources to be inviting musicians to play at the event.

He further observed that Ogbomoso with no “history” of Aso-Ofi is now pushing ahead under its new traditional ruler by building a modern weaving workshop.

His post suggested there was a rift among the weavers in Iseyin thus calling on the new Aseyin of Iseyin Oba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola Adeyeri III (Ajirotutu I), to settle the rift to repackage production and marketing of the wares.

ogbomosoinsightonline.com reports a modern weaving centre of Aso-Ofi has just been completed in Ogbomoso inspired by Oba Ghandi and built by the Nigerian Navy in commemoration of the attainment of the rank of Rear Admiral by an Ogbomoso-born naval officer, Sunday Oyegade.
Titled, “Enough of this Biennial show of laxity and ineptitude that we call ASO OFI DAY!” and laced with the photos of the new weaving centre in Ogbomoso and of its Oba, it is stated, “I love what Oba Ghandi is doing in OGBOMOSHO. So stunned to see that OGBOMOSHO now has Modern Aso ofi weaving workshop, built by Oba Ghandi. Where in history is OGBOMOSHO known with Aso ofi? Ilorin is ranking next to Iseyin than OGBOMOSHO, BUT OGBOMOSHO NOW HAS A KING LIKE LATE ALAFIN OF OYO ,WHO COULD WISH DISNEY WORLD IF POSSIBLE BE RELOCATED TO OYO….
