Curriculum that is the package of knowledge a nation designs to educate its citizens is subject to constant review to meet up with the aspirations of the people. That is exactly what the FG has done. This recent review by this present government of Tinubu and the minister of education under the education ministry is a commendable job, taking into cognisance three key areas factored into the repackaging. 1. Content analysis 2. Relevance to the needs of the people 3. Limited scope.

To start with, content analysis, at the three educational levels, primary, secondary and technical, subjects/contents are reviewed and replaced with relevant ones i.e. civic education is replaced with citizenship and ethical values, while digital education is a new subject among the core subjects. Other subjects like vocational subjects and entrepreneurial subjects are introduced. Science subjects are retained. This is to give a balance content.

Secondly, relevance to the needs and aspirations of the people is factored into the repackaging. All the newly introduced subjects and renamed ones are to cater for the needs of students after learning or schooling. The digital-oriented subject is to take care of the newly introduced computer-based-examination in SS examinations.
Thirdly, limited scope of subjects will see to the reduction in number of subjects students offer which will ignite indepth studies instead of wideness. Currently, students are made to offer many subjects with little or no mastery of them. 18/20 subjects are too many, tantamount to Jack of all trades, master of none! But now, subjects have been reduced to 14, giving room for indepth study and mastery.

Conclusively, having commended the FG for the repacking of the curriculum, they shoud give it time to work and provide the necessary logistics for its implementation. Kudos FG.
