Peoples Democratic Party PDP chieftain Olufemi Onireti has backed the proposal for the creation of a New Oyo State that would have Ogbomoso as headquarters.

Recall the National Assembly has in recent weeks heightened efforts to review the 1999 constitution with creation of new states on top of the agenda. To demonstrate its resolve the two chambers of the Assembly have embarked on public hearings on zonal basis to give room for public participation. Each of the houses had held the events, separately, at Lagos. The push for the excision of Ibadan from the present Oyo state has intensified. Ibadan, Oyo and Ogbomoso delegates have advocated this in their different memorandums whereas the fourth major bloc of the state, Oke-Ogun, is agitating strictly for the creation of Oke-Ogun state. Meanwhile, the battle rages on.

Onireti, a House of Representatives’ aspirant for Ogbomoso North/South/Oriire federal constituency in the forthcoming 2027 general elections, in a innovative move, Tuesday, displayed a postcard lending support to the “Ogbomoso for capital initiative” in his social media handles.

The flyer bears the message, “FO (FEMI ONIRETI)” at the top.

It now asserts, “OGBOMOSO AS THE CAPITAL CITY OF NEW OYO STATE
ONIRETI Supports.”

Set against a background of a photo of Ogbomoso metropolis (LAUTECH Teaching Hospital area) and an embossed map of the proposed state, Onireti accompanies the terse message with a rider, “Ogbomoso as the Capital city of new Oyo State is possible. Let’s make it happen!”
