Alamu, husband of rescued Oriire principal, refutes ‘wicked’ claim

Professor Wole Alamu, husband of Mrs. Rachael Alamu, one of the victims rescued from bandits in Oriire local government area recently has denied granting any interview to any journalist or issuing any statement authorising the publication of a report ascribed to him by some online platforms one in which he was quoted as saying the first sympathizers to visit him were Muslim Ummah after his wife’s abduction (on May 15, 2026) along with others, teachers and pupils).

The online report titled by a platform, “Oyo: I used to be a Muslim & Imam; when my wife got kidnapped the first to visit me were Muslims—Alamu,” claims the Professor of Forest Biodiversity and Conservation as saying he began his life as a Muslim and that he served as an Imam for years before his conversion to Christianity.

It was further reported that he disclosed Muslims were the first set of sympathizers to call on and visit him following the traumatic incident.

“The first 35 years of my life I lived it in the mosque. For people who don’t know, I was an Imam. I was the second in command in University of Ibadan when I was an undergraduate student. The first set of people that visited me was the Muslim community of Oyo State, the second set of people that visited me were the Muslim community in LAUTECH,” he was quoted to have said.

However Prof Alamu has refuted the claim declaring he never spoke with any journalist on a matter like that wondering where the news emanated.

“We have tried to maintain a quiet mien though my wife is continually being pestered by newen real and pseudo but she has been turning them down. So, it is quite shocking for anyone to have manufactured such a report attributing it to me. It is a wicked claim.

“I don’t know what journalism has turned into. I never authorized such a news. But in view of the prevailing situation we won’t take the obvious path we should have taken.

“We only want to charge the public to rely only on verified news and credible news outlets. Junkism is taking over, people who have no knowledge of the profession are posing as one. The public needs to be wary of taking everything on the social media hook, line and sinker,” he calmly told ogbomosoinsightonline.com.
