JUST IN: Appeal Court adjourns Soun’s matter hearing

An Appeal Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, Thursday, adjourned till November 11 to continue hearing on the matter brought before it by the Soun-in-Council challenging the removal of Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye as the Soun of Ogbomosoland.

Recall the Oba, installed in September 2023, was sacked by an Oyo state High Court sitting in Ogbomoso while giving judgment in a case filed (suit No: HOG/27/22) by Prince Mohammed Kabir Olaoye, one of the contestants to the throne of Soun.
The Soun-in-Council as well as the Executive Governor of Oyo state swiftly filed appeals to challenge the judgement. The High Court however granted stay of execution of the judgment pending the determination of the appeals.
During its sitting today, the Appeal Court adopted the briefs of the counsels to the plaintiffs (Otolorin & 5 ORS) and the respondents (Kabir Olaoye & 9 ORS), Yusuf Alli (SAN) and Abiodun Ogunjimi respectively.

In the second matter registerer in suit No: CA/IB/115/2024, between the Oyo state governor and Kabir Olaoye, an application was brought by the counsel to the plaintiffs for the regularization of their briefs.
The date to deliver judgement is likely to be set on November 11, according to feelers from the court.
