The House of Representatives’ candidate for Ogbomoso North/Ogbomoso South/Oriire Federal Constituency on the platform of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Kunle Samson Adegbite, Wednesday, visited the collapsed bridge of Alamo River at Igbo-Agbonin Area of Ogbomoso, promising a temporary fixing of the bridge.

The bridge, ogbomosoinsightonline.com recalls, was washed away by flood few weeks ago during a heavy downpour, throwing the residents, commuters and other users of the road into hardship.

“It has made life difficult for those of us living in the area, the breakdown of the bridge has brought a lot of suffering, now we have to navigate longer routes to reach the town,” a resident, who gave his name simply as Debo told ogbomosoinsightonline.com. “The residents have been appealing to the government to rebuild the bridge even before its total collapse but it has been to no avail. This is one of the ills of abolition of local autonomy, if not the council would have undertaken the project.”

Adegbite, who is founder and chairman of Twindad Foundation, during the visit offered a temporary succour, by donating money for a part to be fixed for pedestrians and motorcyclists.

Commenting on his Facebook page, Adegbite wrote: “When a challenge affects the daily lives of our people, it deserves attention and action. The collapse of the Odo Alamo Bridge has created significant difficulties for residents, commuters, traders and everyone who relies on the route for their daily activities. I went to the site because I care about the people affected and believe that anyone seeking to represent a community must remain close to the realities of the people and respond to their concerns.”

He empathized with residents lamenting the disruptions it has caused while promising the stopgap solution.

“What we are seeing goes beyond a damaged bridge. It is a disruption to movement, livelihoods and economic activities within the community. In response to the immediate hardship, I approved a temporary intervention to restore access and ease the difficulties being experienced, while broader and more lasting solutions are pursued with the relevant stakeholders.”

He encouraged individuals especially those who are blessed to always intervene when the community needs a little push stressing the importance of showing concern in or out of partisan politics.

“For me, this is not about waiting until I occupy an office before showing concern. It is about demonstrating the kind of leadership I intend to provide — leadership that listens, cares and takes action. If we can make a difference today with the capacity available to us, we should.

“As the forthcoming election approaches, I encourage everyone across Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South and Oriire to pay attention to the issues that affect our communities, examine the plans and records of those seeking to represent us, and participate fully in the democratic process.

“Our communities deserve representation that understands their realities and is prepared to work for practical solutions. The choice belongs to the people, and every voice matters.”
