Cheers as Oba Ghandi commissions GTC ICT Centre, Ogbomoso, says, we’ve provided over 50 boreholes

The Soun of Ogbomosoland His Imperial Majesty Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III today, Tuesday, September 29, commissioned the ICT Centre he facilitated for the Government Technical College (GTC), Ogbomoso, Oyo state.

The 30-capacity ICT Centre according to Oba Ghandi was put in place by an indigene whom he however said preferred to remain anonymous.

The monarch revealed that the facilitator called him to request for location for an ICT Centre he planned to bring to Ogbomoso.

“Without consideration I just mentioned Government Technical College, Ogbomoso,” the Oba disclosed.

Oba Ghandi who first made a visit to the GTC to see the situation of things in view of the importance of technical education in imparting skills and producing graduates who could straightaway after graduation be self-employed, informed, “today’s event is a fulfilment of my promise to the principal that the next time I would come I would come and commission a project.”

He informed many indigenes and non-indigenes (friends) often call him to register their intention to execute projects in Ogbomosoland.

We have provided over 50 boreholes

Oba Ghandi disclosed that so far, he had provided about fifty boreholes across Ogbomosoland. “I do tell people that I am not the one drilling the boreholes but charitable people whom I spoke with or who contacted me on their volition because they believe in what we are doing. Water is crucial, and that is why we embark on water provision on a large scale. And my focus is all Ogbomosoland, my concern is to take development across all the nooks and crannies of Ogbomosoland because I am Soun of Ogbomosoland.”

He charged the teachers, students and parents to make good use of the facility and ensure its maintenance and protection in order to encourage the donor.

In his address, principal of GTC, Dn. Kehinde Adebiyi, expressed appreciation to Oba Ghandi for facilitating the project as well as to the donor, submitting the facility is in tandem with their drive towards ensuring technical education meets the need of the modern digital world.

Dn Adebiyi also described the pace of Kabiyesi as inspiring. “Your Majesty, your commitment to education, youth development, and technological advancement continues to inspire us,” he affirmed.

He stressed that the facility was significant in the effort to boost technical cum technological education in the school enthusing it is remarkable.

“The project we are commissioning today represents a significant step forward in our commitment to providing a conducive and technologically advanced learning environment for our students and staff. Through this initiative, the ICT centre has been transformed into a modern facility capable of supporting digital learning, research and innovation.”

This is as he added, “It is our hope that it will serve as a hub for innovation, learning, and technological development for many generations of students who will pass through Government Technical College, Ogbomoso.”

Soun visits nearby Emmanuel Agboola Baptist Secondary Grammar School

Following the commissioning of the GTC ICT Centre, the Soun also visited a neighbouring public secondary school, Emmanuel Agboola Baptist Secondary Grammar School.

Oba Ghandi walked round some part of the school compound accompanied by the principal, Mr. Femi Ogunlana, and members of his entourage. Specifically, he was taken to the abandoned exam hall, the laboratory, mini-ICT centre and the principal office just as he inspected the ongoing new office of the principal. The monarch took interest in the former principals of the school whose portraits were hung in the office, including the Alaipo of Aipo, HRH Oba Thomas Onaolapo Ajadi Oloyede IV, who was administrator of the school between 2010 and 2014.

According to the principal, the Oba also asked for the reason the school was so named. “It was founded in 2003 from Baptist Secondary Grammar School, Ahoyaya, sequel to the disarticulation policy of the government of the day. It was formerly named Baptist Secondary Grammar School III, before being renamed Emmanuel Agboola Baptist Secondary Grammar School after a former chairman of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Rev’d Emmanuel Oladele Agboola. Due to lack of space at the parent school, the school got relocated to the present site after being allocated space on the land of Ogbomoso High School,” the principal had narrated to Oba Ghandi.

Teachers and students were excited at the visit of the monarch, who also wished them well.

In his entourage were the Areago of Ogbomosoland, High Chief Sobaloju Otolorin; Iyalode of Ogbomosoland, High Chief Rebecca Ogundare; the Alapo of Ogbomosoland; and the Onilota of Ilota.

Some others are the Asiwaju of Ogbomosland, Chief Prof Sola Adepoju; the Asipa of Ogbomosland, Chief Barrister Segun Adekunle; home branch chairman of Ogbomoso Souns and Daughters Universal; and the Basorun Musulumi of Ogbomosoland, Alhaji Alimi Sarumi.

Representing the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology were the LIE of Ogbomoso South local government, Mr. Abraham Adeniran; and the principal of the newly established Government Technical College, Ogbomoso, Mrs. Aderonke Kayode.

The Vice Chairman of Ogbomoso South local government and who heads the Ogbomoso Southwest LCDA Alhaja Mujidat Kareem also was in attendance to represent the outgoing chairman of the council area, Hon. Timothy Oyedokun Oyeniyi.
