NUC approves 3 master’s programs at American Open University Nigeria, admission process begins

MBA, MIT and MPA cleared to commence at the University’s Main Campus in the 2026/2027 academic session

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of three postgraduate programs at American Open University Nigeria (A-Global), clearing the institution to admit its first cohort of master’s degree students in the 2026/2027 academic session.

The approval, conveyed in a letter from the Office of the Executive Secretary dated 19 June 2026 and signed by Mr. Abubakar M. Girei, Director of Academic Planning, covers the full-time mode of the Master of Business Administration (MBA), the Master of Information Technology (MIT), and the Master of Public Administration (MPA). The decision follows a resource verification visit conducted by a panel of experts appointed by the Commission, which examined the human and material resources available to the University for the establishment of the proposed programs.

“This approval is the outcome of a rigorous, independent examination of what we have built: our faculty, our facilities, our systems, and our academic governance,” said Prof. David S. Akanbi, founder and president of American Open University. “We are grateful to the Commission for its thoroughness and for the confidence this approval represents.”

Artificial intelligence at the center, not at the edges

The three programs share a design principle that the university says distinguishes them from conventional postgraduate offerings.

“We believe Al is not a feature to be bolted onto traditional curricula. It is a force reshaping how organizations decide, deliver, govern, and compete,” Prof. Akanbi said. “Our programs are designed accordingly, with Al integrated into every course and three signature specializations in each program that prepare graduates to lead in the domains where Al is advancing fastest.”

Master of Business Administration (MBA), with specializations in:

1. Technology Entrepreneurship

2. Human Capital Development

3. Strategic Educational Design

Master of Information Technology (MIT), with specializations in:

1. Al Engineering and Deployment

2. Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics

3. Intelligent Learning Systems

Master of Public Administration (MPA), with specializations in:

1. Digital Governance and Security

2. Public Health Policy and System Governance

3. Strategic Public Sector Leadership

Each program is built on the University’s proprietary EDGE Framework: Educate, Develop, Grow, Empower, and delivered through a true HyFlex model, giving students the choice to attend fully online, fully on campus, or in any blend of the two.
