Call for order and accountability in revival ministries in Ogbomoso, by OluBunmi ODEWUMI

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Ogbomoso Chapter, must urgently rise to address a growing concern in our land.

In recent times, we have witnessed an increase in individuals who claim to be “sent by God” coming into Ogbomoso for revivals, crusades, and prophetic gatherings. While we celebrate genuine moves of God, it is painful to note that some of these visitors have turned the sacred altar into a place of exploitation.

They are robbing people of both their breath — through fear, false prophecies, and manipulation — and their material resources, under the guise of “seed” and “deliverance.”

This must not continue.

1. The Need for Standard Rules for Non-Natives and Visitors.

Ogbomoso is a hospitable and prayerful city. We welcome the move of God. However, hospitality must not be abused.

I hereby call on the Christian Association of Ogbomoso to set up clear and standard rules for any non-native or visitor who wishes to hold revival programs in our domain. The Gospel is free, but order is biblical. “Let all things be done decently and in order” – 1 Corinthians 14:40.

I therefore suggest these rules which should be modified and added to:

1. Formal application: No one should hold a public Christian gathering without first writing to CAN Ogbomoso.

2. Doctrinal screening: A review of their teachings to ensure they align with orthodox Christian faith.

3. Code of conduct: A signed agreement that prohibits extortion, intimidation, and unbiblical practices.

2. Registration and guarantorship

Furthermore, after registration with CAN, every visiting minister must present a guarantor — a resident priest or pastor within Ogbomoso who will stand for him and take responsibility for his activities on the revival ground.

This guarantor will ensure accountability. If there are complaints of fraud, false prophecy, or disorder, the guarantor and CAN will address it together. This will protect our people and also protect the integrity of genuine ministers.

3. Protecting the sheep

The people of God in Ogbomoso are not prey. They are the sheep of Christ’s pasture. We have a duty to guard them from wolves in sheep’s clothing.

Let it be known: Ogbomoso welcomes revival, but we reject robbery. We welcome the Spirit of God, but we reject the spirit of extortion.

I call on all church leaders, elders, and members of CAN Ogbomoso to support this move. Let us work together to preserve the purity of the Gospel and the dignity of ministry in our city.

May God grant us wisdom and courage to do what is right.
