Oyo state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has assured residents that efforts to secure the release of students and teachers abducted from schools in Yawota and Ahoro-Esinle communities of Oriire local government area remain ongoing.

The governor gave the assurance in his Newsletter No. 140 released on Friday, saying the victims remain the focus of ongoing security operations.

Makinde noted that it has been 27 days since the students and teachers were abducted from their schools, leaving families and communities worried about their safety and wellbeing.

He acknowledged the pain and anxiety being experienced by relatives of the victims, adding that while government has repeatedly assured residents that the abductees would return safely, he understands the concerns of families as the days continue to pass.

According to the governor, security agencies have not relented in their efforts, stressing that every credible intelligence and lawful measure is being explored to secure the release of the victims.

Makinde disclosed that available intelligence indicates that the abducted students and teachers remain within the wider Old Oyo National Park axis, a vast area spanning about 2,500 square kilometres across parts of ten local government areas in Oyo state.

He explained that the size and terrain of the area present significant operational challenges for security agencies, requiring patience, coordination and sustained efforts to achieve the desired result.

The governor urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the state’s toll-free Citizens Enquiry Number, 615.

He assured that useful information provided by members of the public would receive prompt attention from relevant authorities.

Makinde also cautioned against the spread of unverified reports concerning the abduction, warning that misinformation could undermine ongoing rescue efforts.
