LAUTECH suspends students for 4 semesters

Some students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo state, have been sent packing by the authorities of the institution. Some of them are Damilare P. Onabanjo, David Abolade, John A. Olorunfemi, Samuel O. Jesuloba, Taofeek O. Alege and Basheerah O. Muritala, were suspended for either allegedly revealing official information via the social media or participating in a protest against the decision of the university Senate to move the Departments of the Anatomy and Physiology from the College of Health Sciences to the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences.

The students reportedly resisted the decision leading to a protest that resulted in locking the gate to the Department earlier this year.

Those suspended were fingered for their roles and thus were made to face the students’ disciplinary Committee of the university.

The suspension letter of Onabanjo (2022002746) of the Department of Physiology, signed by Mrs. Olayinka O. Balogun, the Registrar, states inter-alia, “Consequent upon your appearance before the Student Disciplinary Committee on the allegation of unauthorized disclosure/dissemination of Official University information on social media especially the recent Decision of Senate on Movement of Anatomy and Physiology Departments from the College of Health Sciences to the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences. Senate at its meeting of Tuesday, 24th March, 2026 considered the report of the aforementioned Committee and agreed that it was a misconduct.

“Further to the fact that your action contravened University regulations and your matriculation oath, Senate in line with the University policy approved your suspension from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso for four (4) semesters effective from the Harmattan Semester of the 2025/2026 academic session. You are therefore so suspended.”

The letter warned him against being seeing within the premises of the institution while the suspension lasts, adding that he could only resume in the Harmattan Semester of 2027/2028 academic session.

“While you should not be seen within the precinct of the University during the duration of your suspension, you are expected to resume your studies with effect from Harmattan Semester 2027/2028 academic session when you would have fully served out the imposed sanctions.”

For Olorunfemi (2021002804), of the Department of Anatomy, the suspension letter notes, “Consequent upon your appearance before the Student Disciplinary Committee on the allegation that you participated in a protest leading to locking of the College of Health Sciences gates on 17th and 19th February, 2026, as a reaction against Senate Decision on Movement of Anatomy and Physiology Departments from the College of Health Sciences to the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences. Senate at its meeting of Tuesday, 24th March, 2026 considered the report of the aforementioned Committee and agreed that it was a misconduct.

“It should be noted that your action contravened the matriculation oath you swore to as well as the University regulations. The Senate in line with the University policy approved your suspension from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso for four (4) semesters effective from the Harmattan Semester of the 2025/2026 academic session. You are therefore so suspended.

“While you should not be seen within the precinct of the University during the duration of your suspension, you are expected to resume your studies with effect from Harmattan Semester of the 2027/2028 academic session when you would have fully served out the imposed sanctions.”

Jesuloba (2022002859), Alege (2022007235), Abolade and Muritala (2022007431), all of the Department of Physiology, were also sanctioned for their participation in the protest and had separate letters personally addressed to each similar to Olorunfemi’s.

Meanwhile, ogbomosoinsightonline.com learnt that the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has condemned the suspension, warning of dire consequences.
