The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso Branch, has declared an indefinite strike over the non-implementation of the December 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and outstanding staff entitlements.

The union announced the industrial action in a statement dated October 29, 2026, jointly signed by its branch chairperson, Prof. Olujimi Dada, and secretary, Dr. Soji Arinola.

According to the statement, the strike commenced at midnight on Thursday, October 29, following the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the university on October 14.

The union said the action would remain in force until the university management addressed its demands, including the full implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement and payment of outstanding allowances and promotion arrears.

ASUU said the agreement, signed in December 2025, had been approved for implementation by the university’s Governing Council, but the university management and council had attributed the delay to inadequate funding.

The union explained that it had made several attempts to resolve the issues through consultations and engagements with the university management, the Governing Council and the Oyo State Government, but the efforts had not yielded the desired results.

It added that the decision to embark on the strike followed the approval of the union’s National Executive Council and a resolution by the branch congress.

Demands payment of arrears dating back to 2013

Among the major demands of the union is the full implementation of the 2025 agreement, including payment of consequential arrears dating from January 2026.

It is also demanding payment of all outstanding Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) and promotion arrears owed to members between 2013 and 2025.

Beyond financial matters, the union called for the resolution of outstanding governance and administrative concerns within the institution.

These include alleged distortions in the university’s governance structure, the composition of the Staff Disciplinary Committee, the recomposition of the Committee of Provosts and Deans, and concerns about transparency in the university’s electronic voting system.

The union also cited inadequate office space for staff members and infrastructural deficiencies, particularly at the university’s ICT Unit, among the issues requiring attention.

Faults delay in implementing agreement

ASUU LAUTECH expressed concern that the institution remained one of two universities in the South-West zone yet to fully implement the agreement.

It further stated that, among institutions in the Ibadan Zone of ASUU, the two Oyo State-owned tertiary institutions, including LAUTECH, were yet to complete implementation of the agreement.

The statement disclosed that the university management met with the union on Tuesday, October 27, following the declaration of the trade dispute.

At the meeting, according to ASUU, the management reported efforts to contact the university’s Visitor and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to intervene and assist in securing full implementation of the agreement.

However, the union said its branch congress, which met on Wednesday, October 28, found no significant response to the issues raised in the ultimatum and consequently resolved to commence the indefinite strike.

Academic activities suspended

With the commencement of the strike, ASUU directed its members to suspend all academic activities indefinitely.

The suspended activities include statutory meetings, lectures, examinations, teaching, laboratory work and interactions with students.

The union also instructed members to treat directives issued by the branch chairperson as the authentic source of official instructions during the industrial action.

The statement was issued on behalf of ASUU LAUTECH Branch under the slogan, “Solidarity Without Compromise.”
