It noted that the union had been hesitant despite its congress of July 2026 saying the non-committal of the university management, governing council and the Oyo state government, however, has brought the union to the edge.

“The Congress of ASUU LAUTECH had earlier met on July 22, 2026 and resolved to carry out all the directives of NEC of ASUU towards the full implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement. The inability of the University to fully implement the agreement necessitated the branch to approach NEC and request for its approval to initiate the procedures for embarking on the industrial action starting with the declaration of this 14-day ultimatum.”

The union disclosed it had made several strenuous efforts in order to meet relevant stakeholders for the resolution of the matter but to no avail.

“ASUU LAUTECH wishes to draw the attention of the University to several efforts earlier made by the Union in discussing this issue and the need to take proactive measures towards the full implementation of the agreement in order to forestall any potential industrial crisis.

“It is on record (with substantiating evidences) that on several occasions, ASUU LAUTECH executive committee had met with the University Administration, the University Governing Council and the Visitor to the University on the full implementation of the agreement and how this issue will not degenerate to industrial crisis. It is also on record that, ten (10) months after the agreement (which the Visitor is a party to) was signed, the agreement is yet to be fully implemented in LAUTECH and the Visitor has never made any categorical statement to this effect.”

“ASUU LAUTECH wishes to inform the University that the 14-day ultimatum is to allow and enable the University commence the full implementation of the agreement. LAUTECH Branch of the Union will not have any other option but to embark on a full-blown industrial action if the agreement is not fully implemented by the end of the 14-day ultimatum in line with the NEC directive.”
