Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has appealed to Nigerians to pray for former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, following what he described as a series of false allegations made against him by the former governor.

In a statement issued by the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the governor said Nigerians were shocked by Fayose’s recent comments, which he described as misleading and unbecoming of a former public office holder.

The Commissioner stated that Governor Makinde remains focused on addressing the security challenges facing Oyo State, particularly ongoing efforts to secure the release of children and teachers abducted in parts of the state.

According to the statement, the governor is currently preoccupied with matters relating to the safety of residents and therefore has no intention of engaging in unnecessary political disputes.

Prince Oyelade maintained that it was unfortunate for a former governor to make allegations capable of distracting attention from sensitive security operations aimed at securing the freedom of innocent citizens still in captivity.

He further alleged that Fayose’s recent comments reflected a pattern of political hostility and misinformation, recalling previous claims made by the former Ekiti governor against Governor Makinde.

The Commissioner also referenced comments allegedly made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in November last year concerning Oyo State, suggesting that recent developments have raised questions about the motives behind certain political attacks on the governor.

According to the statement, Fayose had earlier alleged in April that Governor Makinde was plotting to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, a claim the state government described as false.

Prince Oyelade argued that such allegations, alongside recent remarks, were sufficient to reveal what he described as the real intentions of those behind the attacks on the governor.

The Commissioner noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had publicly commended Governor Makinde on two occasions since the abduction of students and teachers in the state, adding that the governor remains committed to securing their safe release.

He urged residents of Oyo State and Nigerians generally to remain calm and hopeful, assuring them that the state government was working tirelessly 7 security agencies to bring the victims home safely.

The statement reiterated the governor’s commitment to protecting lives and ensuring that ongoing rescue efforts are not undermined by distractions or political controversies.
