The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ogbomoso zone, has asked the Oyo state government to immediately shut down schools in the zone.
In a statement issued by the leadership of the union in the zone, the closing of the schools, it was noted was imperative in view of the critical situation bordering on the bandits’ attack on three schools in Oriire local government area in the zone last Friday, in which a teacher and a student were killed, and the principal of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele and six other teachers as well as 39 school children including 2 year olds were abducted.
They emphasized that what happened to their colleagues could happen to any of them and that there is need to beef up security in the zone being close to the north which has been the hotbed of terrorism. This is as the union called for the safe return of the abductees.
