The ongoing road rehabilitation project along Owode – Iwofin road in Ogbomoso by the Oyo state government is now a source of concern to some residents of Oke – Ogbegun as an alternative route through their axis has become a death trap.

The alternative route became imperative due to the ongoing construction of a new bridge over the Ogbegun River thus there is a diversion of vehicles into the inner roads in the community.
“The connecting route that branches off in front of the transformer at Oke-Ogbegun is in a very bad condition, because it is riddled with gully patches,” a resident along the route Mr. Williams Orogbade lamented to ogbomosoinsightonline.com. “Many motorcyclists take it as alternative route but it daily engenders accidents. The road has many potholes and stretches of gullies and so okadas easily fall over with their passengers causing serious injuries and damages especially at night.”

Orogbade said the best solution is to have the road graded. “Temporarily repairing the road will ease the pressure. We approached the contractor as a sub-community and they promised to fill the gullies but the promise has not been redeemed. We beg them to come to our aid or if it is the council chairman that will help us grade the road. The alternative road poses serious danger to residents and those who ply it. In fact, a tipper just destroyed my own well because of the bad condition of the road. The tipper driver discovered he couldn’t go ahead and as he was trying to reverse to go back he hit my well,” he added.
“Our people are agitated and so we plead with the contractor and the council chairman Hon George Ogunlade to repair the road.”
