Panic spread in Oriire LG area over bandits’ strike of park rangers post

Oriire local government area of Oyo state is now in panic mode as bandits targeted a Nigerian Park Service (NPS) post at Oloka, Tuesday night during which five park rangers were killed.

The “merchants of death,” a resident of Ikoyi informed ogbomosoinsightonline.com, were probably on a revenge mission disclosing the park rangers had in the past raided the criminals’ bases deep in the forest.

“That is why they have targeted the office of the park rangers and refrained from attacking villagers or abducting anyone. The park rangers we are aware in the past penetrated the bandits’ lairs where weapons and ammunitions were reportedly seized,” revealed a resident of Ikoyi, headquarters of Oriire local government who however didn’t want his name used.

It was also disclosed that students stayed away from schools in the area Wednesday afraid of any surprise attack.

 

“At Ikoyi Grammar School the number of students that attended school today was very low, even those that came left early. Teachers also could not sit in their various staff rooms because the offices were at hidden places. So, all the teachers converged in front of the principal’s office drawing courage from one another,” a visitor to the school further informed Ogbomoso Insight.

Baale Oloka Chief Joel Olatunde Alagbe has begged the government to beef up security in the area, lamenting, “Inhabitants have fled, the town is desolate now. Government should come to our aid.”

 

In the meantime, the Police Public Relations officer, Oyo state, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Oyo state Command, had sent tactical teams, Mobile Police Force personnel, and EOD to the affected areas to prevent any more breakdowns of law and order.
