Ahoyaya Grammar School Ogbomoso: Family of ex-principal donates sports trophies to school

Baptist Secondary Grammar School, BSGS, Ahoyaya, Ogbomoso, was the beneficiary of three sports trophies Wednesday, donated by the children of the third principal (head teacher) of the school, Pa B.A. Adewusi. Pa Adewusi (now late) administered the school between January 24, 1964 and May 24, 1966.

Handing over the trophies on behalf of the family, Barrister James Adesanya Adewusi, in company with his wife Dr Dns Caroline Olufunke Adewusi, said the family decided to present the trophies after a former vice principal of the school, Dr. Bunmi Odewumi, (who served in the school between 2016 and 2021), approached the family. Dr Odewumi, who later retired as a principal elsewhere, Adewusi disclosed, is a relation.

Barrister Adewusi appreciating Odewumi for facilitating the gesture said he convinced the family during a recent function of the need for it.

He said the gesture was aimed at boosting sports development in the school praying the school would witness greater progress.

In a letter to the school, which he signed, it is stated, “In honor of our father’s dedicated service to humanity and the community during his time as the head teacher of this esteemed institution from February 25, 1964, to May 24, 1966, we are pleased to present a set of three trophies, inscribed as a symbol of learning, peaceful coexistence, and harmony in the name of the Father the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”

It is added, “Our prayer is that our father’s legacy, along with those of other past leaders, continue to inspire all who pass through this institution of learning.”

Principal, Mr. Olusegun Adewoye also appreciated Dr Odewumi, saying his action demonstrates large heartwsness. “And to the family, which hails from Ede in Osun state, we really appreciate you. The heaven is the limit for your life. You have brought the memory of your father to life in the school again. We appreciate you sir.”

Odewumi in his remark, recalled the process began when a former principal of the school Prince Lekan Olawuyi encouraged staff to reach out to former teachers who served in the school to donate trophies (and rendered other assistance) “because at the time, we wanted to hold interhouse sports competition and we had only one trophy forcing us to borrow. From the money generated after the athletic competition we we were able to buy few more.”

He continued, ‘I took it as a task and contacted some past head teachers and staff but there was no breakthrough. But being maternally related to Baba B.A. Adewusi from Ede and knowing he was a head teacher in the school l had a rapport with my brothers and they accepted. They asked me to send them the cost which l did and they transferred the money. Today, they have further entrenched the legacy of Baba, they have immortalized him.”

Barrister Adewusi in a chat with ogbomosoinsightonline.com urged philanthropists, old students and other well-meaning individuals to assist the school noting “they should see the institution as a legacy. We should ensure the Baptist legacy in this citadel of learning is sustained despite the fact government has taken it over. As Baptist members, Christ followers that love education, we should make sure the legacy is upheld.”

He also charged the students to remain focused and ensure they receive western education for a great future.

Likewise the principal called on others to emulate the B.A. Adewusis in giving back to the school.
