The midnight theft at the Ogbomoso Waterworks of the Water Corporation of Oyo State (WCOS) is being suspected to be a sabotage.

That is the revelation following further investigations by ogbomosoinsightonline.com.

Recall the place was vandalized Saturday/Sunday in the dead of night with cables and other valuables reportedly carted away by the yet to be identified hoodlums. During the dastardly act, the night guard at the complex was allegedly tied down to a post.

“The incident was a complete vandalization of the government property, possibly targeted at the water rehabilitation project embarked upon by a Soun-led coalition under the supervision of the WCOS,” a source at the dam told Ogbomoso Insight.

The source noted that there were two transformers in the place, one serving the waterworks and the other the neighbouring communities. It’s observed that while the latter was untouched the dedicated transformer to the water scheme was attacked.

“From my observation, it was a well organized vandalization, a deliberate effort, as all sources of power to the water scheme (both armor cable to NEPA and the generating set) were vandalized,” the source further disclosed.

“They took their time to remove the armor cables though the second transformer that serves the community was spared. That particular angle made the whole drama to be suspicious. All wires meant to power water supply were vandalized. What they don’t even need they made sure they destroyed them, it’s shocking.

“The cable connecting the transformer to the feeder pillar, all the connections from the feeder pillar to change-over switch, from change-over to master control board and the main breaker were all vandalized. It reeks of sabotage.”

Meanwhile, ogbomosoinsightonline.com learned crack investigative security agents have stepped in to unravel the incident.

When contacted Rev’d Peter Olaleye, Special Assistant on Media and Community Relations to Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, the Soun of Ogbomosoland, only stated that the police had waded in and would get to the roots of the crime. “It is government property, it is not about His Imperial Majesty Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III, it is about the people of Ogbomoso. The police would do their job and uncover the perpetrators, l am confident.”
