Ogbomoso Parapo defies Soun, declares, ‘Your majesty you lack power to dissolve exco’

The (dissolved) exco of the Egbe Omo Ogbomoso Parapo Agbaaye has declared pointblank the Soun of Ogbomosoland His Imperial Majesty Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III lacks the power to carry out an act such as dissolution of the exco, saying the action is extra-constitutional.

In an audio advertorial which has gone viral with the national PRO, chairman home zone and secretary home zone, Comrade T.M. Balogun, Alhaji Iliasu Jamiu and Mrs. Janet Akintoyinbo respectively put as announcers, the trio insisted the association’s excos remain intact.

They submitted their position is not to disregard the monarch but to uphold the constitution of the socio-cultural organisation assuring Ogbomoso indigenes the excos remain solidly on ground.

They averred it is because there is an organisation that th need for patrons and grand patrons arises, dismissing the dissolution as ultra vires.

“We assure you the Oba has no authority to disband the association. It’s because there is an association that patrons and grand patrons are appointed. It is not in the constitution that a king can disband the association, we are still intact. It is not an act of disrespect but we only stand by the constitution of the association,” the release notes defiantly.

Recall last week during a press conference at the palace Oba Ghandi Olaoye the grand patron announced the dissolution of the excos at the national and zones levels replacing same with a caretaker committee headed by Prof Olusegun Ajiboye, a former Registrar and Executive Secretary of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria TRCN.

The Oba who did not give any specific reason for the dissolution only stated there was need to overhaul and reposition the association in alignment with his 25 year-development plan.

However, public commentators have opined that the disbandment is not unconnected with the frosty relationship the national exco presumably has with the monarch evident in the distance maintained by them from the palace.

The national president Justice Afolabi Adeniran rtd who passed away in June was in trail condition and could not redress the situation in the last few years raising the assumption the organisation had been hijacked, forcing the Oba to act decisively.
