How come Ogbomoso had no representation at the Saturday’s Zonal Public Hearing of the House of Representatives’ Committee on 1999 Constitutional Review held in Lagos. A week earlier the Senate held a similar hearing, and Ogbomoso was ably represented by a delegation led by Rear Admiral Jacob Ajani. The Senator representing Oyo North senatorial district Dr Abdulfatai Buhari was likewise present. The high-powered delegation went under the standard of the Soun of Ogbomosoland His Imperial Majesty Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III. The case of the city to transform into the capital of the proposed New Oyo state was persuasively presented. Delegations from Ibadan, Oke-Ogun and Oyo were as well were there to make their presentations.

It’s however shocking that Ogbomoso was not represented at the House of Representatives’ hearing, which would have been used to reinforce the community’s aspiration. What happened? Was the message not properly passed across? Was there some kind of communication gap? Where do the House of Representatives’ members – Hon Lamiju Alao-Akala (Ogbomoso North/ South/Oriire Federal Constituency) and Hon Sunday Makanjuola (Surulere/Ogo-Oluwa Federal Constituency) – from the zone stand? Is it their fault? Lackadaisical attitude? Or the committee’s blame for not promptly disseminating the information? Or is it some conspiracy? Or was the hearing not that important, one that can be circumvented? Questions and questions!

In the final analysis, this is a call to get our acts together and avoid a slipshod approach. Remedy should be effected.
