Ogbomoso principal emerges NUT national exco member – ‘It’s unprecedented’

A public secondary school principal in Ogbomoso Oyo state has emerged as an executive officer of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) at the national level. He is Comrade Solomon Oladayo Ajala.
Comrade Ajala, who is the principal of Owode Community Grammar School, confirming his elevation said he is now the national editor of the teachers’ union. His nomination was endorsed during the last May Day celebration held in Ibadan.
Until his new appointment Ajala was the Oyo state national representative of the union.
The new national editor started his trade unionism career when he was elected branch examiner of account 1 in Oriire local government. Later he emerged through a keenly contested election as branch chairman Ogbomoso South local government during which he was elected Ogbomoso zonal chairman.
Thereafter, he served at the state level as state un-officio and as state fourth vice chairman before rising to become state national representative.

He served in various schools in Ogbomoso zone, city and less city schools, as teacher, vice principal and now principal, during which he posted impressive records. His present station is, according to information gathered at both the Oyo state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Oyo State Post Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), one of the largest in Ogbomoso zone, which is why the school is one of the four schools recently split into two.
Meanwhile, Ogbomoso Insight gathered that Comrade Ajala is the first Ogbomoso person to get into the national exco of NUT. “It’s unprecedented, we have had two persons from the town who had served as state chairmen but none at the national level. It’s congratulations to him, he is a pacesetter as far as teachers unionism is concerned,” a source stated.
