Gov Makinde FedPoly Ayede beckons – intervention on 4km access road

The developments being recorded by the Federal Polytechnic Ayede Ogbomoso Oyo state is heart-thumping. In so short a time the polytechnic has stamped its feet as a force to be reckoned with in the field of education. Founded in 2021 during the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari along with five others across the country there is no doubt it has soared in a glittering way ahead of its contemporaries. In terms of number of programmes offered and accredited, students population, scholastic feats and excelling students and academic in various endeavours among others, the institution stands ahead of its peers. It had a headstart with a temporary site made available for its use at Iresapa, but impressively the Dr Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed -led management has been able to sustain the tempo with rapid development at the temporary site and more commendably at the permanent site at Ayede.

Many fledgling institutions take decades to move to their permanent site after establishment but within three years or so, the permanent site of FedPoly Ayede is ready for occupation. It is kudos to the management team which is the pioneer and all stakeholders who contributed to the achievements at the two sites. There names will linger forever in the institution ‘s honours roll.
The level of development as demonstrated in the buildings showcased including the entrance gate to the institution during the recent visit of its new Governing Council chairman Hon Yakubu Dati really is stimulating. Well- structured buildings, complete with painting, point to the greatness lying in wait.

The management’s prudence and penchant for credible legacy are clearly evident. It deserves a pat on the back. Such leadership needs to be encouraged. The Rector during the recent matriculation ceremony reiterated they are ready to relocate to the permanent site but that the plan is being hamstrung by lack of good access roads. This has been the song for quite some time. And so, the management has hinged the movement on construction of access roads to the host community.
Four routes lead to Ayede; these are via Idi-Araba, Ajaawa, Oolo and Odo-Oba. But the quickest is Idi-Araba, which links Otamokun – Ogbomoso road. This will be the most preferred by staff and students because it’s the route those who like to evade the ever busy, trailer-infested Ogbomoso – Oyo road will ply because of safety concerns. Aside, it is less than four kilometres to Idi-Araba! The other mentioned routes linking Ayede are longer and some of them may require major bridge constructions. If the four can’t be constructed that of Idi-Araba at least can be paved, it is 4km! With an access road the school is going to move. It will trigger a significant landmark.
Yeah, it’s a Federal Government institution but there have always been collaboration between federal and state governments on development. The institution is located in Oyo state, primarily benefitting the people of the state, thus the state government making strategic interventions isn’t out of place. There is no record of the Oyo state government making any contribution to the growth and development of the institution since about four years ago it started incidentally during the first tenure of Governor Seyi Makinde, this is disappointing.

In the face of this need of a four – kilometre access road which is certain to induce accelerated development l appeal to the Oyo state helmsman Governor Seyi Makinde to undertake this “small” project. He has executed and is executing bigger projects across the state, so, this is nothing if he has the desire and is willing. It will not detract from him rather it will make his rating surge. In that whenever the history of the institution is updated it will be said of him that his administration facilitated its relocation to the permanent site via construction of its access road. He is a man creating wonderful legacies, he can add to these by directing the four-kilometre road be paved with asphalt. It’s within his power. There are other intervention projects he can undertake to give the polytechnic a strong footing.
We appeal to him to further write his name in gold.
