LAUTECH faculty of agric relocation: Mother of all rallies slated for Monday

The people of Ogbomoso are by no means relenting over the planned relocation of the faculty of agricultural sciences Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo state, to Iseyin in Oke-Ogun axis of the state as a conglomeration of groups under the aegis of Egbe Omo Ogbomoso Parapo Agbaaye are set to hit the street on Monday to demonstrate against the proposed move.
According to a press release signed by president of of Egbe Omo Parapo Agbaaye, Justice Afolabi Adeniran (retd); Asiwaju Oloja Ogbomoso zone, Alhaji Olawuyi Kayode; president Ogbomoso Community Youth Forum (OCYF), Rev Peter Olaleye; LAUTECH concerned ex-students coordinator, Comrade James Obasa; president of artisans, Comrade Abiodun Aremu; and Comrade Murtala Adebisi, the protest assured will be peaceful has become imperative so as to appeal to the state government to abort the proposal.
“A conglomeration of Ogbomoso groups under the aegis of Egbe Ogbomoso Ogbomoso Parapo Agbaaye including Asiwaju Oloja Ogbomoso zone, Ogbomoso Community Youth Forum (OCYF), artisans and concerned ex-students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), concerned by the planned relocation of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of LAUTECH to the fledgling Iseyin campus, have decided to stage a peaceful protest to express their displeasure over the move.”
The groups further noted the protest is decided upon since government had not responded to their various pleas while noting they are of the view that instead of relocating the faculty, new programmes should be started in Iseyin.
“We have made several appeals to the state government to rescind the decision, that the governor should rather begin another faculty with fresh students at iseyin and let it grow with the iseyin community.”
It now added, “In the light of this, Egbe Ogbomoso Parapo Agbaye together with the babalojas, iyalojas, onise-owos, onisowos (traders, artisans, marketers), youths and others agreed to stage a peaceful protest on Monday, May 22, 2023, so as to further express our displeasure and let the governor know this is not in consonance with the development of Ogbomoso community.”
The protest will begin 7am at the historical Soun Ogunlola Hall of the city.
ogbomosoinsightonline.com also learned that Ogbomoso Parapo has been making attempts to meet with Governor Seyi Makinde over the matter but had not succeeded.
