Over 40 traditional rulers attended Ogbomoso Security Summit, as panelists chide council chairmen for shunning event, ‘No, I had state function’ – Ogb North boss

Panelists chided the conspicuous absence of local government chairmen in Ogbomoso zone area of Oyo state at the security summit organized under the auspices of the 25-year development vision of Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III, the Soun of Ogbomosoland.

 

The panelists who that included Ambassador (Chief) Akin Oyateru, Prof Emmanuel Remi Aiyede, AIG Bolanta Adisa (rtd) and CP Fatai Owoseni (rtd), expressed disappointment none of the council chairmen in Ogbomoso zone was present at the summit, which they noted is crucial to the sustenance of peace and security of their people.

The function was attended by many traditional rulers, chiefs, captains of industries, school principals, security experts, security agents, various local security outfits, representatives of LAUTECH Vice Chancellor, the Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Ogbomoso and some of its principal officers, and many more and also had launched Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Safe Schools Initiative and Booster-M-App.

 

Over forty traditional rulers from across the five local government areas in Ogbomosoland indeed graced the occasion held at The Great Hall, LAUTECH, with many of them participating actively in the discussion themed, “Community -Based Security Management in Ogbomosoland: Issues, Challenges and Prospects.” A Security Trust Fund was also launched.

The discussion moderated by Dr Olayinka Oyegbile identified the pivotal role of council chairmen in providing security at the grassroots level and the need to commit adequate resources to councils.

 

“The local government authorities must have adequate amount voted for security but they must be responsible and accountable.”

 

Some of the royal fathers and chiefs at the event are the Soun, Alajaawa of Ajaawa, Alapa of Okin-Apa, Aale of Okelerin, Onisapa of Isapa, Alaipo of Aipo, Olotamokun of Otamokun, Onifedegbo of Fedegbo, Aare Alaasa of Ogbomosoland, Alaroje of Aroje, Alaaje of Aaje Ologo, Alabaa of Abaa, Olubere of Ibere, Onilota of Ilota, Abora of Ora, Elerepamo of Pamo, Onidewure of Idewure, Olosupa of Osupa Orile, Alara Fapote, Onimaya of Maya, Alamura Ladokun and Olorigi of Origi.

Among the chiefs are Areago of Ogbomosoland, Ikolaba of Ogbomosoland, Abese of Ogbomosoland, Iyalode of Ogbomosoland, Alapo of Ogbomosoland, Oganla of Ogbomosoland, and Agbaakin of Okin-Apa.

 

Meanwhile speaking on his absence, the chairman of Ogbomoso North local government, Hon George Ogunlade, said it was due to a state function that clashed with the summit, explaining it was not intentional.

 

Hon Ogunlade disclosed the event clashed with the budget bilateral discussion, review and harmonization exercise conducted by the government officials, which held at Ogunlola Hall, Oja’Igbo, Ogbomoso. He said he was thus at the Ogunlola Hall, adding that the officials arrived after 12pm. “It was not intentional,” he stated.

 

Other council chairmen in the zone according to findings had various unavoidable commitments too.
