TERRORISM: Ogbomoso to hold security summit, launch security trust fund

The Ogbomosoland Harmonised Security Committee under the 25-year Development Plan of the Soun of Ogbomosoland Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III will Wednesday September 30 hold a high-powered, resourceful security summit and launch a security trust fund in efforts to boost the security architecture of the the zone.

The event will hold at the Great Hall, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, with the theme, “Community-Based Security management in Ogbomosoland: Issues, challenges & prospects.”

According to a statement by the chairman of the Harmonised Security Committee, Rear Admiral Jacob Ajani (rtd), the summit has become imperative in order to bolster the security of lives d properties in Ogbomosoland.

He said the last experience at Ahoro-Esinele/Yawota was extremely bitter and unpalatable and that efforts must be made to prevent reoccurrence by all stakeholders including government and community people.

“The Ogbomosoland Harmonised Security Committee has scheduled a security summit for September 30, 2026. It will hold at the Great Hall, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso. The theme is Community-Based Security management in Ogbomosoland: Issues, challenges & prospects,” Rear Admiral Ajani (rtd) stated.

“The summit has become imperative in view of the general insecurity situation in the country. The recent experience at Ahoro-Esinele/Yawota, Ogbomoso is extremely bitter and unpalatable. We must make sure something like that never happens again.

“The purpose is to contribute to bolstering security situation in Ogbomosoland. We must all work together, and collaborate with governments at different levels.”

He informed a security trust fund will be launched to pool resources for enhanced security, stressing security experts, traditional institutions, government representatives, community leaders, academics, and stakeholders from across Ogbomosoland will gather to ruminate on the matter.

He added, “The safety and security of our people can not be left to government and security agencies alone. We must make it our collective responsibility and contribute our quota.”

He said further, “As another edition of Cradles Carnival approaches, we must work hard on security in Ogbomosoland. People must be assured of their security before, during and after and perpetually.”
