NCWS hails rescue of Oriire abducted teachers and pupils

The Nigerian Council of Women Society (NCWS) has hailed the safe rescue of the abducted teachers and pupils who were abducted by bandits in their schools at Ahoro Esinele and Yawota, Oriire local government area of Oyo state on May 15, 2025.

In a statement signed by the president and secretary of the Oyo state chapter of the association, Mrs. Kikelomo Olufunmilayo Oyelade and Chief (Mrs.) Yemisi Isinmiola Olowoyo respectively, the rescue coordinated by a combined team of security agencies was described as a remarkable feat.

NCWS is indeed elated that its contribution too is not in vain, which it noted included majorly a day prayer programme undertaken by members throughout the country centring on the safe release of the victims.

The association expressed thanks to God, President Bola Tinubu, Governor Seyi Makinde, and Obas especially the Soun of Ogbomosoland Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III and Aseyin of Iseyin Oba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola Adeyeri III (Ajirotutu I). This is as they appreciated the national president of NCWS, Princess Edna D D Azura (Kwatam Mutaku), as well as the national and all state exco members, security agencies and all Nigerians for their various roles which resulted in the safe release.

“We are extremely grateful to God for the safe rescue of our children and teachers who were abducted in Oriire Local Government area of Oyo State. The way they were released though with some casualties earlier on elated us, it is a remarkable feat. We also thank the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Oyo State Governor, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde; the Heads of security agencies and all their operatives; the indefatigable Soun of Ogbomosoland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III; Aseyin of Iseyin Oba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola Adeyeri III (Ajirotutu I) and all other Obas and Chiefs.

“This is also to register our appreciation to the National Council of Women Society at the national and state levels for their concern during the trying period. We specially show gratitude to our national president, Princess Edna D D Azura (Kwatam Mutaku), and all members of the national and state executive committees and all members generally. We thank everyone for their faith in the redeeming power of the Almighty.

“The NCWS organized a national prayer on Monday, 8th of June 2026, throughout all local government councils in Nigeria, all state headquarters in Nigeria and at Abuja the national headquarters. It started by 10am. The prayer session was held on the same day throughout the country. We thank God, we didn’t do it in vain.”

In addition, we thank governments at all levels for the rehabilitation and reintegration of the victims since after the rescue and we thank all who had assisted them one way or the other.

“Meanwhile, we commiserate with the families who lost loved ones in the incident, we pray God will uphold the families and grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses,” the association added.

ogbomosoinsightonine.com recalls that NCWS Oyo state condemned the abduction in a news circulated by media May 19, calling for the safe rescue of the victims. It appealed to the Federal Government, Oyo State Government, security agencies, and relevant stakeholders to intensify efforts toward the safe release describing the incident as troubling.

“So, this is victory for all Nigerians, we thank God for His infinite mercies,” the association concluded.
