FACT CHECK: No protest in Ogbomoso over ‘unheralded’ NRS Training Institute

A report on social media Saturday claimed there was a protest in Ogbomoso over the siting of the National Revenue Service (NTS) Training Institute in Oyo town instead of Ogbomoso. The unverified report claimed the institute facilitated by Dr. Zacch Adedeji, the NRS chairman, was diverted, accusing him of sabotaging Ogbomoso though he is from the zone.

This was the basis of the protest allegedly in Ogbomoso the report claimed.

But this is news to many people, that is the approval and the proposed siting of the training institute in Ogbomoso, and so, protesting over its alleged diversion doesn’t make sense. Will people protest over what is not known to them?

ogbomosoinsightonline.com investigated the claim of the protest and it found out it was false. From one end to another no one reported any protest in the town, and so, where did the report emanate? Moreover, that is not the style of Ogbomoso. Also, where are the photos of the protest? The one used was obviously scavenged from Goggle. Why are the leaders of the protest not mentioned? Ccncocted news!

Findings have thus revealed that it is politics taken too far. It is a political gimmick to weaken the support base of the governorship bid of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ogbomoso, by attempting to present the party’s deputy governorship candidate, Adesoji Adedeji, who is from Iwo-Ate in Ogo Oluwa local government area of Ogbomoso, and his elder brother, Zacch Adedeji, as unpatriotic.

But it is equally unpatriotic to splash mud in the garment of Ogbomoso while playing politics; reporting a protest that did not take place just to score political points is not patriotic at all. The report paints Ogbomoso people as intolerant, selfish and irrational. It presents the town in bad light.

While playing their politics, they should not drag the name of Ogbomoso into it, moreover in a matter that involves siting of projects. If Adedeji has the influence and decides to take a federal government institution to his preferred place, so be it, why will anyone publicly protest over it?

In addition, it was never in the news that the institute was allocated to Ogbomoso, and so, why will her residents, resort suddenly to taking to the streets? Therefore, it is obvious, the report stemmed from political foes of the Adedejis, either within the APC fold (perhaps those who knew about the so-called institute) or without, opposition parties, particularly those who will benefit from the “fake” news.

Ogbomoso’s name is sacrosanct and bigger than any political shenanigans and restraint should always be exercised against making her a lame duck for ridicule or attack.
