The reigning Soun of Ogbomosoland His Imperial Majesty Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III has chastised his Balogun-designate, Dr Saka Balogun, over his recent remarks on, the late Oba (Dr) Oladunni Oyewumi Ajagungbade III, his predecessor.

Oba Ghandi described Dr Balogun’s comments as most unfortunate and a careless talk not expected of someone of his pedigree.

Recall Dr Balogun who was approved for the position of Balogun of Ogbomosoland earlier this year, while featuring in an interview in an online television, accused the late Soun of thwarting his ambition to assume the position way back in 1992 when it was the turn of his family, the Balogun Atere Gbebi family. He likewise claimed Oba Oyewumi, who joined his ancestors in December 2021, was driven by the notion that as the Oba he owned all the land and had the right to appropriate any land. Dr Balogun however mocked that the late monarch lost in courts in regard to this.

The family of the late Oba Oyewumi meanwhile had cautioned the Peoples Democratic Party PDP leader against such “offensive and inflammatory comments” submitting it was wrong of him to speak ill of the dead, who cannot defend himself.

Weighing in therefore, Oba Olaoye answering a question on the issue during a press conference at his palace Friday said, “One thing l don’t want to do is to engage a chief in the palace, the fact that he is careless about how he spoke, l will not be careless. I am going to maintain my comment. I won’t speak the way he spoke. The things he said about the last Soun was unfortunate, he is not a young man, there is an expectation from an old person, which he did not fulfill.”

Some remarks considered uncharitable were also made against Oba Olaoye by Dr Balogun and addressing it the paramount ruler maintained, “Also, the way he spoke about me is unfortunate but as I said l am not going to speak that way, his own careless talk, l won’t do that. But it is unfortunate.”

He however assured the installation ceremony of Balogun would hold in December, noting that the December date had been agreed upon since last year and that Dr Balogun could not controvert that.

He pointed out the Soun had the inalienable preserve of dictating and making decisions on issues relating to the throne of Soun.

“You asked a very simple question, it is going to be in December and he knows. That is why l said his talk was careless. He knows since last year that it is going to be in December. He agreed to it that it was going to be in December and that is why I said what he said was unfortunate. He himself knew it’s December and nothing will change the December date.”

The Soun added, “If he is going to be in that position it is going to be in December. People don’t decide for the throne, anyone who needs anything from this throne, you don’t decide, l Oba Ghandi decide, it is not done, and I think he should know the person who sits on this throne decides who gets anything from this throne.”
