I believe staying informed about political issues and state of governance is crucial just as we take the most dearest affairs of our lives. Politics is often misunderstood as mere power struggles, but it’s actually the foundation of our societal structure. It’s the system that governs how we live, work, and interact with one another. At its core, politics is about making decisions that impact our collective well-being.

In Nigeria, our political atmosphere has been shaped by its complex history, from colonization to independence, military rule, and finally, democracy. The country’s trajectory has been marked by various challenges, some prevailing; corruption, insecurity, and economic struggles. Despite these obstacles, we must continue to yearn and aspire for a better future, with aspirations for prosperity, peace, and good governance.

However, we should understand that wishing for change isn’t enough for us as a country, especially after 64 years of independence. We need to reorganise and recognise that positive transformation requires intentional effort and collective action within the political economic system. It’s not about hoping for a better tomorrow; it’s about building a system that ensures a comfortable future for all. This requires active participation, critical thinking, and engagement with the political process.
When people participate genuinely in politics and advocate for positive change in their communities, remarkable things can happen. It’s a powerful way to define the future and create a sense of ownership and responsibility. Political participation often comes with risks and costs, but the alternative is worse. When good people stay on the sidelines, others with harmful ideologies and intentions fill the void. It’s crucial that the right people participate, with sound ideology, coordination, and respect for the process. By doing so, we can create a sane and ideal society that we all dream about.
I join fellow countrymen to mark our 64th independence anniversary, we honour the unwavering spirit of our forebears who fought tirelessly for freedom. Their selflessness and perseverance paved the way for our nationhood. We acknowledge the significant progress made and recognise the weight of responsibility that rests on our shoulders. We must continue their legacy by actively participating in shaping Nigeria’s future, ensuring good governance, and promoting constructive politics. When we do this, we repay the debt owed to our heroes past and secure a tomorrow for ourselves and the generations to come. Let us draw inspiration from their courage and resilience, and build a united and prosperous Nigeria where justice, equality, and peace reign supreme.
