In a landmark event that signals a new era for gospel music ministry in the region, Evang. Tope Olaniyan, popularly known as “Liberator,” has emerged as the substantive Governor of the Christian Musicians Association of Nigeria (CMAN/MOCGAA), Oyo state chapter.
Evang Olaniyan has since been inaugurated in a historic ceremony during the high-powered inaugural edition of the Musicians and Choristers Conference (MCC 2026), held at the Zion International Gospel Center, Ojongbodu, Oyo.
A transition of leadership
The emergence of Evang. Olaniyan follows the resignation of the former Governor, Bishop Dr. Yomi Adekunle, who stepped down to “focus on the expanding responsibilities and wider reach of his primary ministry.” The transition has been described by many as “seamless and divine,” which ensures the continuity of the association’s vision.
A proven track record
Evang. Olaniyan’s journey to the governorship is marked by years of dedicated service and administrative excellence. A pioneer member of the association, he previously served as Zonal Secretary (Ogbomoso Zone), Zonal Chairman (Ogbomoso Zone), Vice Governor (Oyo State Chapter) and Acting Governor (Oyo State Chapter).
The official ceremony of his inauguration (from acting governor to substantive governor) was performed by the national president, Evang. Mrs. Kemi Awoyele, supported by distinguished members of the Board of Trustees, including Evang. Baale Remi Aderoju and the renowned Apostle J.O. Afolabi (Okoto Jesu).
Presidential commendation
Addressing the press following the ceremony, the national president, Evang. Mrs. Kemi Awoyele lauded the new Governor’s exceptional leadership qualities. She highlighted his intelligence, technical skills, and stability he brought to the association during his tenure in an acting capacity.
“We believe that making him the substantive governor will bring unprecedented growth and fortune to the association in Oyo state,” the president remarked.

A record-breaking appointment
The inauguration is particularly significant for the Ogbomoso region. Apostle J.O. Afolabi (Okoto Jesu) expressed immense joy, noting that Evang. Olaniyan is the first governor to be chosen from Ogbomoso Zone since the inception of the association. Furthermore, he is recognized as the first governor of any Christian musicians’ association within Oyo state to hail from this axis.
The Governor’s acceptance: A call to service
In a heartfelt acceptance speech, Evang. Tope Olaniyan (Liberator) expressed his profound gratitude to the Almighty God for the grace to serve. He extended his appreciation to the national executive, the Board of Trustees, and every member of the association for the confidence and opportunity bestowed upon him.
While seeking the unalloyed support and cooperation of all members, the “minted” governor made a solemn pledge: “Commitment to excellence, promising to lead to the best of his knowledge and ability, and ensuring the association reaches new heights.”

He hammered on divine alignment emphasizing his administration would be anchored on the “fear of God and the standards of the Holy Scriptures.”
This is as he stressed the imperative of unity and progress, submitting, “I urge a collective effort to build on the foundations laid by my predecessors.”
Looking forward
In his new role, Governor Tope Olaniyan is expected to focus on the welfare of gospel artistes, the spiritual depth of choristers, and the overall professionalization of music ministry across the 33 local government areas of Oyo state.
The event concluded with a sense of renewed hope as members from across the state are posed to rally behind their new leader to take MOCGAA, Oyo, to greater heights.
