Deacon Sunday Adegbite Taiwo fondly called “SAT,” younger brother of late Col. Ibrahim Adetunji Taiwo, former military governor of Kwara state, was the cynosure of all eyes Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Elisam Event Centre, Aroje, Ogbomoso, as he was celebrated by family, friends and well-wishers for clocking 81 years old.

The celebrants

The event was attended by many dignitaries from all walks of life, and from across the globe. Rev’d Dr. Olusegun Adeleke, Minister-in-Charge of Ikoyi Baptist Church, Lagos, (the church of the celebrant), in his exhortation, titled, “Divine exploitation, divine promise and testimony in old age,” with text from Psalms 92: 14 – 15, noted the Bible underlines that in old age one could still be fruitful and make impact.

Rev’d Adeleke commended Dn Taiwo that in his old age he is still fruitful observing that since he returned to Ogbomoso he has continued to be fruitful. “As an instance, with Mama, you teach mathematics to students of secondary schools despite your old age, and you continue to contribute to the activities of Gideon International in spreading the gospel, that means you are still bearing fruits, living a life of continuous fruitfulness.”

He urged him to continue to bear fruits, support church planting efforts around the world, help indigent students and so on. This is as the cleric prayed for him, declaring, “As the Bible promises, you will stay fresh, you will stay green, you will not be a liability to anybody. God has promised to carry you and sustain you. You will continue to have good testimonies in old age to the glory of God. God will continually show you He is upright, and your rock, and know there is no unrighteousness in Him.”

Many said good things about the celebrant describing him as a good man, who has touched many lives.

General Ahmed Taiwo with the celebrants

Major General Ahmed Taiwo, son of late Col. Ibrahim Taiwo, submitted, “My uncle is a special man, very special man. He is the only son remaining from his mother’s side. After my father died, it was him who trained us, all his nephews and nieces, he provided for us, and we have no choice but to celebrate him now when he is alive, to show him how we love him and what he is worth, how we value him. We were supposed to celebrate him last year but he doesn’t like parties but this time we said ‘no.’ Someone who has achieved so much, who has trained many, and so we insisted we must celebrate him. So, I am very happy it is a very big success.”

Dn. Taiwo’s sister, Mrs. Deborah Aderonke Olaleye (nee Taiwo), in a tribute, said, “He is a wonderful brother and an extraordinary human being.”

The guests were treated to sumptuous meals and exquisite drinks.
