Within the last one and a half years a new word was introduced into the Ogbomoso lexicon – Cradles Carnival. It’s slated for December (18 – 22). Nothing like that ever happened in Ogbomosoland, the first version was much anticipated though trailed by scepticism. How can something like that be wrought in Ogbomoso? The naysayers propounded various reasons it would not succeed, why it’s not desirable, some even claimed it’s a pagan worship, still, others dismissed the proposal as mere grandiosity beyond the city’s grasp citing the enormous resources that would be required, the requisite organisational acumen that would go into it, the prevailing polarisation and wave of disunity assailing the town; yes, the chronic sceptics viewed it’s unraveling with a negative mindset. But they didn’t know Oba Ghandi.

When His Majesty first rose to the throne there was a function at the Palace which featured his investiture as the Grand Patron of Ogbomosoland Consultative Council (OCC). He unveiled part of his 25 year-development plan at the occasion. When members of the OCC expressed reservation on its realisation that they had gotten their hands in several developmental agenda previously without a headway, the unstoppable monarch waved it off asserting what he’d done all his life was getting things done and that impossibility meant nothing to him. “When l get my hands on the plough l never looked back,” he declared, his words in defiance of the naysay, exuding unshakable confidence. We now know better. The inaugural Cradles Carnival in December 2024 was world class, a masterpiece, a showpiece only a genius can weave.

Riding on the crest of the success of that trail blazing edition, preparation for the second edition took off in earnest. We won’t forget the gains of the first edition including economic benefits, fostering of greater unity, greater visibility for the community globally, instilling the feeling of “So we are capable of doing this,” among other short- and long- term benefits.

Another edition is here!
In two days another episode will unfold. The poser is no longer “Can we do it?” But “How do we make it grander?”
The amount of preparation, resources and ingenuity that have gone into the second edition of has however removed all doubts.

In the light of this, all that is left is for all men of goodwill to make the best of the carnival, explore the goodies it has to offer in different fronts and leverage on them for personal growth. The carnival embowels immense opportunities that the ingenuous ones can harness. It’s left for the individuals to be sensitive and know how to make use of opportunities.

Above all, let’s unbundle ourselves and enjoy the fun, the festivities. Let’s ease tension for once, let’s merry, let’s make exclamation of joy, let’s jump in elation, let’s savour the moment, let’s join the celebrations, let’s create time to participate, let’s cast aside the troubles of the time. This is the season of merriment. Let’s adorn gorgeous attires, elegant footwears, beautiful traditional caps and headgears, designer wrist watches, let’s showcase what we have got, our horses, our expertise. Let’s flaunt our skills. Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival is here, it’s time to be hilarious.
