A leading youth group in Ogbomoso Oyo state Ogbomoso Community Youth Forum OCYF has called on Governor Seyi Makinde to declare state of emergency on Ogbomoso inner roads as it decries its present state.
This was an highlight of a press briefing Wednesday held by the group to express appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and Governor Makinde over their various road interventions in Ogbomoso zone.
Speaking at the event held at the site of a newly rehabilitated bridge over Odo-Oru river at Federal Government College area, the PRO of the body Comrade Adebayo Adeniran urged the Oyo helmsman to declare state of emergency on the roads because of their bad state which he said have made them become unmotorable.
Earlier in an address titled, “We appreciate FG over road construction/rehabilitations in Ogbomoso, appeal to OYSG over inner roads,” Dr Olusola Akinrinola, financial secretary of the forum expressing profound gratitude, said, “The Ogbomoso Community Youth Forum OCYF on behalf of the people of Ogbomoso Zone expresses gratitude to the Federal Government of Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu for the attention our city is receiving in terms of road infrastructure.”

Dr Akinrinola provided one of the bases for the appreciation, when he recalled that OCYF in April 2024 appealed to the federal government over the Odo-Oru damaged bridge, which he revealed had now been fixed, “removing the fears of drivers and pedestrians.”

He noted President Tinubu exceeded that feat by also rehabilitating “the major trunk A road through the city which then was seriously dilapidated and posing danger to road users and residents. The repairs of the road was undertaken late last year and impressively, it was recently attended to again fixing the little potholes that started appearing at various spots. This is heartening and shows good maintenance culture. We are appreciative of the gestures.”

Furthermore he hailed the adminstration for the “re-award of the contract for the completion of the Ogbomoso – Oyo section of the Ibadan – Ilorin dual carriageway to JRB Construction Company Ltd, the construction of which has begun in earnest, we are extremely grateful for this.”
Noting the road when completed “will save us a lot of stress, inconvenience and reduce accidents, reduce strain on the former road and make it more resistant to damage from strain resulting from thousands of articulated vehicles plying it daily,” he called for more interventions in areas such as “Construction of access road to the permanent site of Federal Polytechnic Ayede, completion of 132kv power substation in Ogbomoso, Police Secondary School at Odanbon and other projects already approved for the zone, we bring to your notice for prompt execution.”
Similarly thanking Makinde particularly “over the construction of Ogbomoso – Iseyin road” which he described as “a strategic road that has linked two major economic hubs of Oyo State,” he appealed for the repairs of inner roads in Ogbomoso metropolis and other roads in other local governments in the zone.

“However, Your Excellency, we want to remind you of your promise to rehabilitate inner roads in Ogbomoso Zone. It is saddening that intracity roads in Ogbomoso metropolis especially are in a bad shape, they have become unmotorable making users gnash their teeth.
“Your Excellency you have been promising since your first term to effect the rehabilitations, but the roads are yet to get your attention, we plead with you to come to our rescue, the state of the roads has made driving difficult. Likewise, there are roads in other local governments in Ogbomoso Zone that expressly need repair just as we plead that growing communities be opened up with new roads. Please, see to this. We wish you complete success and greater heights.”
