Ogbomoso Recreation Club committed to social responsibility as 2025 AGM held

Ogbomoso Recreation Club ORC is committed to Social Responsiblity (SR), it has been reiterated.

 

This was disclosed during the 2025 annual general meeting AGM of the club held physically at its premises and virtually Saturday.

 

The president Dr Akin Oladeji-JohnBrown in his address thanking members for their “unwavering support” listed some achievements of the current exco in the last one year which underscores the club’s commitment to social responsibility.

 

Dr Oladeji-JohnBrown noted despite the economic challenges confronting the country ORC was still able to make its impact felt in terms of community networking, engagement and service.

“I’m honored to stand before you as the President and reflect on the past year’s achievements. As this Exco goes into the last year of the second term, it fills me with immense pride to reflect on a year brimming with momentous celebrations, exciting developments, and a spirit of unwavering resilience amidst economic challenges,” he said.

 

“Our unwavering commitment to the growth of the club made the Exco to prioritize infrastructure development and social responsibility to our immediate community.”

Among others Dr Oladeji-JohnBrown informed that the club’s garden bar, game sections and reception were remodelled and unveiled for better experience, upgraded outdoor facilities through provision of functional space for a variety of game activities such as tables tennis and snooker and indulged in promotion of other indoor games like chess, scrabble, draught, opon ayo etc, which he said culminated in the donations of 25 chess board by Tunde Onakoya, Guinness World Record holder for the longest marathon chess game, enthusing this feat has placed ORC on the global map of the Chess hub.

The president added that a boxing tournament was sponsored, promising it would become an annual event. Also, a cycling section had been introduced which he said kicked off with “cycling for health” initiative, these are aside the tombola and other social activities held to inspire recreation of members.

 

Asserting the club’s commitment to Ogbomoso Community Dr John Brown stressed, “The last one year witnessed the ORC commitment to giving back to the community and supporting sister associations that are committed to the development of Ogbomoso land.”

 

He highlighted some of the achievements in this wise to include donation of sanitary, food and other items to Kersey’s Children Home and Leper’s Colony, support for Ladoke Akintola University of Technology LAUTECH by availing the institution of the use of its sporting facilities such as table tennis and donation of kits and other equipment towards the forthcoming Nigerian University Games (NUGA). “This demonstrates our members’ commitment to worthy causes,” he emphasized.

 

Various resolutions were made including increasing membership fees and ratification of the club’s facilities for LAUTECH.

 

In a chat after the meeting Dr JohnBrown reiterated his gratitude to members saying they have been supporting the vision of the exco. This is as he maintained “We have tried to improve the ambience and facilities of this place and use of the facilities are being subsidized, we are not charging commission rate, we are charging social rate for members and we believe that in the coming years this will be better improved. The club is networking with our environment at the local, state and national levels and we are involved in lots of initiatives which included the NUGA games we mentioned in respect of LAUTECH, and we are very proactive in the issue of state creation, talking with other stakeholders, and at the cultural level, the club has been involved in Oba Ghandi’s tournament, we run cycling, health, and other programmes aimed at improving the wellbeing of everybody.”

Oloye Pekun Amstrong Olaleye, the Agbaakin of Okin-Apa, and who is social secretary of the club, echoed the president’s commendation of members for their support which he averred enabled the monumental achievements, “legacy projects,” recorded by the present executive committee while underlining that a recreation club is programmed to achieve community development.

 

Olaleye listed of the legacy projects especially in upgrading the golf course to include erection of a decent gate, new reception building and general upscaling of the course.

Also Olatunde Akinola Joseph a.k.a. T-fat, expressed appreciation to the exco members for their initiatives especially “in improving facilities at the club and community development initiatives. These are very encouraging.”

 

Many members participated online to contribute to a robust deliberation.
