‘You’ve marvelous facility,’ Oyo Immigration controller on Ogbomoso passport office, assures on quick take-off

The Controller of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Oyo State Command, Joseph Dada, has commended the people of Ogbomoso over the building facility provided for the NIS passport office billed to takeoff in the community.
Controller Dada gave this commendation Tuesday during an inspection tour of the facility located along the Ogbomoso-Ilorin dual carriageway, near Yanyan Cattle Market, beyond Federal Government College.
“This is marvelous, what I am seeing, it is marvelous,” Dada hailed.
He assured the office will soon be put to use noting such an edifice can’t be allowed to lie fallow as he stressed he would include in his report the details of what he had seen.

“I will write my report and it will be without embellishment, it is what I have seen I will report. But when operation starts here does not rest with me, I have my ogas, but no one will see something like this and allow it to go to waste. You have really done well. You have done wonderfully well.”
He added, “I am really overwhelmed by what I saw. There is nothing absolutely remaining except for us to bring the needed equipment. And I promise you I will write my report and submit it to the authorities.”
Dada, who is the 36th controller of Immigration Service in Oyo state, expressed confidence the passport office would boost the economy of the town especially of the immediate environment the office is located recalling the experience they had when the FESTAC passport office in Lagos was opened years back.
“As it has been happening in other communities this office by the time it comes fully into operation will boost the economy of the community. Anytime a passport office is set up it will boost the economy of the place because people will be coming for trading there and for this one, those people are likely to be Ogbomoso people.
“I remember when we started the passport office in FESTAC, the people of the area opposed it vehemently citing various reasons to the extent they took us to court, it became a problem, luckily we got another building making two, but we persisted, and at the end of the day, today, those passport offices have contributed to the economic wellbeing of almost all the houses in the close, almost all. Cybercafes are now open, the area has become a commercial area, that is the way with passport offices.”
He however pleaded for unity and cooperation saying under such atmosphere can the office operate successfully. “This passport office is the glory of Ogbomoso, therefore, I will want to appeal and try to seek your cooperation to make unity our watchword. The passport office belongs to us all. The success of this passport office is important for it to bring the needed development, let us see ourselves as one.”
Alhaji Monsur Ejide, the chairman of the committee that saw to the construction of the building speaking at the event expressed gratitude to the Immigration Service and the controller disclosing the community was eager to see operations commence at the office.
“We want to thank you for your time, please, the earlier the better so the building will not be depreciating for lack of use. Let it be known that the community is eager and ready for operation to begin here.”

The passport office was approved in 2022 but with a condition that the community would provide the building. Egbe Omo Ogbomoso Parapo Agbaaye took it up and set up a committee to supervise the construction appointing Alhaji Ejide as the chairman. After land was acquired the foundation was laid on July 21, 2023. Several indigenes supported the project financially but Alhaji Ejide is credited for committing most resources, financially and morally.
The controller earlier paid a courtesy visit to the palace of the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, during which he also assured the office would soon take off.
He similarly called on the chairmen of Ogbomoso North and Ogbomoso South local governments, Honourables George Ogunlade and Oyedokun Timothy respectively, where he was also assured of cooperation of the councils and of the people of Ogbomoso.
