LETTER: Appeal to Gov Makinde to expedite action on new Soun

The state of interregnum in respect of Ogbomoso throne is becoming discomfiting. It is unnecessarily becoming too long. The demise of Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade is almost two years now. This state of affairs is not too good for the ancient town that has illustrious sons both at the state and federal levels of the country as commissioners and ministers respectively. It is quite unfortunate that the installation of a new Oba has been messed up by the Soun Council, as their actions and inactions have been challenged in the law courts.

Though, Governor Seyi Makinde has taken a bold step by asking the Olaoye ruling house that is to produce the new Oba to settle among themselves and provide a consensus candidate, it appears this has not been done as the ruling house is trying to repeat the history of non-compromise they are noted for according to history. A search into this non-compromise can be broken by the prerogative right of the governor which is the import of this appeal. Reliably, the judgement of the court will be pronounced this month, the governor should go ahead to pronounce the new Oba by the result of the court and give no room for any appeal by the losers that may tend to prolong the matter further through delay tactics. Admittedly, the governor is a democrat that believes in the rule of law, reason for the delay as he is waiting for the court judgement which is good of him. I am only making this appeal not in contrary to the governor’s fairness but only wanting to have credit of being the governor that installs a new Soun. And the need for quick action before his second tenure runs to an end. For a stitch in time safe nine, and procrastination is a thief of time! I wish you a remarkable second term in office with enviable achievement like this. Amen.
