JUST IN: Ogbomoso gets FRSC Area Command, two new unit commands

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has created an area command in Ogbomoso, Oyo state. This is as at least two unit commands were established including Oolo and Orile-Igbon unit commands.

This was disclosed to ogbomosoinsightonline.com by the newly posted head of the area command, Aderemi Folarin, Monday.

Folarin explained the area command would coordinate about five other units some of which would be newly created.

“Actually, the area command is to monitor the unit commands and to make sure that we are able to control the traffic and reduce accidents within the command. There are about five units under the command. The area command will operate under the state – sector command,” he disclosed.

Folarin who until his posting to Ogbomoso zonal command was National Head of Corps Intelligence Office Abuja said most of the units are newly established “there is Oolo unit command, there is Ile-Igbon unit command, there is Igbeti unit command and one or two other units. There is another command in Iseyin and the one in Oyo should be under us too.”

Meanwhile, in accordance with the condition given at the time of approval that the community provides building facility and furniture for the commission, Ogbomosoland Consultative Council (OCC), an apex socio-cultural organization in the city, has assumed the responsibility by acquiring a building behind Ogbomoso High School which they have refurbished and furnished for the purpose.

Confirming the development a co-leader of OCC, Gen. Oladayo Popoola (rtd.), told ogbomosoinsightonline.com, “Yes, we have tried our best, we rented a place for them. We are painting the place in their colour, that is how far we have gone.”

Also, Hon Michael Abioye JP, administrative secretary of OCC, informed that the office is located at J.K. Atanda Layout in Ogbomoso South local government.

Abioye said, “OCC got an apartment – two flats for five years duration rented for the zonal zonal corps office in Ogbomoso South local government. In addition we shouldered the painting of the building.”

Unveiling four officers had assumed duty at the area command office Folarin assured that when asked if his men would not constitute themselves into agents of victimization to motorists in the zone, “We only put the unit commands on their toes, we monitor them and put them on their toes, it is not even an operational command and if there is traffic bottleneck anywhere we make sure they appear on time, it is the same assignment but we cover a wider area.”

 

 

He enthused Ogbomoso people are friendly, not hostile and accommodating unlike some people who repel people just as he said “things are cheap in Ogbomoso.”
