Though I had been hearing about the great Babalaje as far back as the late 70s during the days of the now defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), my relationship with him began in 1998 when I was the chairmanship candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (A D) for Ogbomoso South L G. In November 1998, a meeting of all AD chairmanship candidates in Oyo State was fixed for Late Chief Bola Ige’s Bodija residence with a view to discussing the approaching L G elections. I wouldn’t forget how Babalaje would point at me rather dramatically at the occasion and tell the gathering that I had previously served as Ogbomoso South L G chairman for two terms and that by Gods grace, I would still win. Like a prophet, he spoke affirmatively and it came to pass. To God be the glory.

Each time I visited him whether at Saki or Ibadan, we always lost track of time, engrossed in deep conversations sparked by his own willingness to benefit others with his rich experiences and my own eagerness to be one of such privileged beneficiaries. He was always self-assured and inspirational. I will certainly miss his wise counsel and witful insights.

As we mourn his death, we will continue to celebrate his life.

May God bless the memory of his being. Amen.

Good night Baba.
