GOLDEN JUBILEE: Anglican Grammar School Ogbomoso Alumni to launch historical book on Saturday

Anglican Grammar School Ogbomoso Old Students Association (AGSOSA) will, Saturday, September 26, present a book featuring 50 years history of the school.

The Golden Jubilee anniversary is a well-packaged three-day event beginning Thursday with a press conference and unveiling of the anniversary logo; visitation to the Soun of Ogbomosoland Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III, and the Bishop of Anglican Communion Nigeria Ogbomoso Dioscese, Bishop Dr Titus Olayinka. On Friday, a special programme tagged, “Back to School,” will be held in the morning with old students returning to the school in their numbers for a kind of reunion and recreating the old-time memories, while the evening is slated for anniversary speeches. Saturday which is the grand finale will feature conferment of awards and public presentation of the history of the school titled, “Anglican Grammar School Ogbomoso (1976 – 2026). The programme will be rounded off Sunday, with a thanksgiving.

In his speech at a press conference to formally announce the anniversary and unveil the logo Thursday, current principal, Dn. Joseph Abiodun Olowe, praised the vision of the Anglican Mission for establishing the Anglican Modern Secondary School, which transformed into Anglican Grammar School in 1976, asserting the school had gone ahead to produce “generations of men and women who have made meaningful contributions to education, public service, business, politics, medicine, engineering, religion, academia, agriculture, the military, sports and numerous other fields of human endeavour.”

Dn. Olowe, who is the first alumnus to serve as principal, affirmed the school has kept the flag fluttering under the banner of discipline, commitment, sacrifice and God’s grace, which he emphasized had resulted in consistent academic excellence.

He recalled, “One of the most remarkable testimonies to the academic strength of the school was the outstanding achievement of Dapo Isola, who emerged as the best candidate in the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) throughout West Africa in 1985. Such an achievement remains a source of pride and a powerful reminder of the academic pedigree of the institution.”

Olowe commended the alumni’s general body, different sets, individuals and the Parent – Teacher Association (PTA) for their numerous interventions, which he said ensured physical transformation of the school over the years.

He urged the alumni and all stakeholders not to relent but to do more. “The next 50 years demand a renewed commitment to academic excellence, moral discipline, digital education, science and technology, sporting development, modern infrastructure, teacher development and the welfare of our students.

“The school must prepare students not only for the jobs of today but also for the opportunities and challenges of tomorrow. The world is changing rapidly, and Anglican Grammar School must continue to change without losing its identity, values and heritage.”

Also, Prof. Olugbenga Solomon Bello, AGSOSA national president, celebrated the achievements of the school in its 50 years of existence, remarking, “Looking back at our rich history today, we can confidently say that the seeds planted five decades ago have grown into a towering forest of impact. Our institution’s journey over the last half-century is defined by remarkable achievements.”

Prof Bello added, “Over the last five decades, our school has graduated global leaders, innovators, and changemakers, maintained a fierce legacy of academic and sporting excellence and has evolved into a modern hub of learning and growth. I am incredibly proud to be a product of this great institution.”
