Brain Drain: ‘Not peculiar to LAUTECH Teaching Hospital,’ suggestion offered on how to augment revenues

Following a report on the state of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Oyo state, that borders on inadequate funding, which is believably is provoking brain drain among personnel in the hospital especially medical doctors, cybernauts have reacted giving varied opinions.

Kunle Oyeleye, ex-general manager of Crown Football Club, observed in a WhatsApp post (08035872582) that the dire situation is not peculiar to the hospital, but a malady confronting almost all sectors in the country, why however calling on the Engr. Seyi Makinde-led administration in Oyo state to increase the funding of the hospital.
He wrote, “Not peculiar to only LAUTECH, there is capital flight in virtually every aspect of our professions but medical practice is the worst hit and LAUTECH Teaching Hospital is not immune, but it makes it worse because paucity of funds has not allowed for replacement and fresh appointment. Oyo govt needs to see to the problem of LTH.”

In his own reaction titled, “Suggestion on Revenue Generation in LAUTECH Teaching Hospital,” Ismaila Abubakar via Whatsapp number – 08057777438 – charged the management of the institution to look inward and to be proactive.
He opines some sectors in the hospital can be commercialized to augment its revenue base, emphasizing the pharmaceutical department particularly could be explored profitably in this direction.
“Thorough investigation to ascertain state of the art pharmaceutical facilities in the Department of Pharmacy whether it can be used for commercial purposes for the production of fluid, injection, syrup, tablets and capsules,” Abubakar noted.

“LAUTECH Teaching Hospital must be geared and prepared towards revenue generation to augment subvention coming from state government. Pharmacy Departmental building in the hospital can be proposed to establish Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
“LAUTECH can be encouraged to set up Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, where extensive research can be carried out on medicinal values of roots and herbs, which abound in Oyo state. Patient right has to be protected, the state can earn income in the export of pharmaceutical products and local consumption.”
He further stressed, “Oxygen can be bottled in the oxygen plant that can be sold to various hospitals across the country. My thought.”
