Hope rises as Work Minister Umahi plans visit to abandoned Ogbomoso/Oyo road project today

The Minister of Works Mr. David Umahi, is to inspect the Ogbomoso/Oyo road project today.
The minister it is learnt will also inspect the Ibadan-Sagamu road and other federal road projects in Oyo state.

According to a worker of the Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) handling the two dualization road projects, the purpose of the inspection is to assess level of work and charge the contractor to speed up the work and make quality delivery.
Ogbomoso Insight however reports that the 52km Ogbomoso/Oyo road project has again been abandoned and workers and equipment evacuated to other road construction sites the company is handling.
Non-release of fund is the reason the road construction which began over twenty years ago (Ibadan/Oyo/Ogbomoso/Ilorin) has been abandoned again, another worker informed.
It is thus hoped the visit by the minister will witness announcement of further fund allocation to the road project.

Recall the minister last August also made an inspection visit during which he commended the contractor for doing quality job.
He had however pleaded with the company to speed up work and complete the project by last October.
The State Controller of Works in Oyo, Mr. Kayode Ibrahim, while briefing the minister on the state of the project, being funded by the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund (PIDF) and Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), had said it had reached 87.2 per cent completion.

Ibrahim further informed Umahi that Oyo – Ogbomoso dual carriageway which was contracted to RCC in June 2010, had reached 80 per cent completion.
The Chief Engineer of RCC, Mr Fida Natour, promised that his company would deliver quality job on the two projects.
Natour appreciated the federal government and management of the Federal Ministry of Works for their support and timely release of funds for the projects.
