OGBOMOSO: Family of 6 lands in hospital, one dies after amala meal mixed with cassava

Tragedy struck in Temidire area, along Ajaawa road, Ogbomoso, Oyo state, Wednesday, after a family of six comprising the grandmother (identified as Mrs. Victoria Paul Adewole), her four children and a grand daughter allegedly took amala (yam flour) meal Wednesday night, following which they became uncomfortable.

According to information, the six family members’ a distress call aroused the attention of neighbours who rushed in and took them to a private hospital at Ogbomoso Baptist High School area, where the grand daughter reportedly died.

The remaining victims were thereafter referred to Bowen University Teaching Hospital (BUTH), which also reportedly rejected them, and so were taken to LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, where medical personnel are said to be presently battling to save their lives.

A neighbour who spoke under condition of anonymity however disclosed the family likely added dried cassava peels to the yam flour which probably contained poison which became fatal.
