New courses: Oyo govt, Ayede Poly reach agreement on Technical College Ogbomoso

Following approval of eight more courses for the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Ogbomoso, the need to get more facilities to absorb the expected surge in students and staff population has led to the management of the institution parleying with the Oyo state ministry of education, science and technology on the release of part of the Government Technical College Ogbomoso (GTCO) for its use.

The meeting held Friday at the ministry’s headquarters at the secretariat, Ibadan, was conveyed and chaired by the honourable commissioner for the ministry, Professor Salihu Adelabu, whose entourage included the ministry’s officials – LIEs of Ogo-Oluwa and Ogbomoso South local governments, and some directors at the headquarters.
Also at the parley were Mr. Kolapo Olatinwo (deputy registrar) and Mr. Ojo Olasunkanmi (chairman committee of deans), who represented the Ayede Poly rector, Engr Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed; the chairman of governing board of GTCO, HRH Oba Thomas Onaolapo Ajadi; the management of the school led by the principal, Mr. Kehinde Adebiyi; representatives of Ayede community; and chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association of GTCO.
Prof Adelabu reportedly expressed willingness of the state government to partner the fledgling institution to get off to a strong footing informing the government would be allowing part of the facilities of GTCO at High School area to be used by the institution, which he emphasized is a federal government heritage belonging to Oyo state as a whole.

He said he envisaged a symbiotic association in which Fedpoly Ayede would carry out some repairs at the section given to it and provide other germane facilities, which would be to the benefit of GTCO after their withdrawal.
Responding, the spokesperson of the Ayede Polytechnic assured that all facilities met on ground would be adequately maintained and improved upon.
He said by the time the polytechnic would be moving out finally to her permanent site, there won’t be any form of regrets on the part of the state government.

Also speaking Oba Ajadi Aipo emphasized on the symbiotic relationship underlined by the commissioner, noting the facilities are being released to the polytechnic “for safekeeping.”
He thus enjoined them on proper maintenance culture and improvement of the facilities.
It is understood the partnership has immediately come into effect with the Fedpoly Ayede expected to assume academic activities there when a new session begins.
ogbomosoinsightonline.com reported the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE) few weeks ago approved eight new programmes for the Fedpoly Ayede including electrical electronics engineering technology, accountancy, business administration and management, public administration, agricultural technology, urban and regional planning, estate management and valuation, and tourism management technology.
These, added to the previous courses of computer engineering technology, computer science, science laboratory technology and statistics, means the institution now runs 12 courses of study.
Presently, the institution is operating from a temporary site at the National Youth Development Centre, Iresapa, near Ogbomoso.
Meanwhile, the construction of the permanent site at Ayede is a commitment passionate to the rector, Dr Abdul-Hameed, who is said to be channeling sizeable funds from the little available to get the place ready for occupation as soon as possible.
