Ekiti: Police rescue abducted school children, teachers

The Police Command in Ekiti state has announced it had rescued school teachers and students abducted on January 29 in the state.

In a press statement signed by DSP Abutu Sunday, Police Public Relations Officer, the rescue operation was carried out by a combined team of policemen, Amotekun operatives, local vigilantes and hunters.
Saying the five school children and their teachers were successfully rescued it informed regrettably the whereabouts of the driver was unknown presuming he is dead thereby expressing sympathy to his family.
The statement, obtained by ogbomosoinsightonline.com, reads, “The Ekiti State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the five abducted school children including their teachers on 29/01/2024 in Emure-Ekiti have been rescued successfully.

“This, no doubt, was made possible through the combined efforts of the Police and other security agencies including the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes and hunters as well as the family members and the support from the Federal and State governments.
“While we sympathise with the family members of the driver who is suspected to have been killed by the abductors while in hostage, the Command vows to continue with the operation and investigation until the perpetrators are arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.”
In the meantime, the rescued victims have been handed over to the state government for medical examination and attention.
It’s recalled the school, Apostolic Faith Nursery/Primary School, located in Emure-Ekiti, had its school bus, conveying the pupils, attacked Monday evening, near the Eporo Ekiti town boundary with the victims being led into the bush.
Meanwhile, according to a voice note by a man in Ekiti, who identified himself as Prince Adeolu Tinubu, the security agencies deployed drones and helicopters in the rescue operation.
