The hope of seeing Ogbomoso – Oyo section of the Ibadan – Ilorin four-lane highway awarded early 2000s completed seems to have been dashed again as the contractor handling the section – Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) – has abandoned the project.

Hopes rose recently when the road construction, started in Oyo, reached the threshold of Ogbomoso with the contractor giving a time frame of four months to be done with the exacting project which had taken over twenty years already.

Recall the minister of works Dave Umahi visited the site last year with a promise to complete the road project.

However, investigations by ogbomosoinsightonline.com reveal that the contractor had stopped work and indeed is evacuating its equipment.

This, according to some staff members who however spoke under condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on it, is not unconnected with non-release of funds by the federal government.

It is disclosed, ” Work has completely stopped and some equipment are already being evacuated.”

“However we are hopeful that fund will be released in earnest and that is why some staff are still being retained. But if in a while nothing is forthcoming, all the staff and equipment will be moved elsewhere,” the source added.

It is regretted this is happening again during the dry season when construction should be speeded up.

It is recalled the Ogbomoso – Ilorin and Oyo – Ibadan sections had been done with years ago and commissioned for use.
